I have lived on the ground floor in every apartment I've ever lived in and this is the first time I've had a noise complaint. I just moved in one week ago and I already feel like I am losing my mind. My upstairs neighbor paces the floor day and night, as late as 4:30am, and it sounds like an elephant thundering above. My fixtures rattle and the floor creakes! I hear it every waking & sleeping moment and it's making me hate this apartment. A member of the office staff told me that it can be a problem in newer complexes because they cut corners, but that did not solve my problem.
Other than the serious sound-proofing issue, I've only had minor issues so far with this complex and most have been fixed: my carpet was still soaking wet on move-in day, small roaches occassinally seen in every room, the hot water heater had been turned down to the lowest setting so it took 15 minutes to get warm water, the dishwasher didn't work properly. But, the upstairs noise alone is making me regret ever signing a lease here. I feel I will slowly lose my mind over the next 12 months. x-2PE3sjUIIeetAHoKOk

Noise is a serious problem. I can hear conversations upstairs, downstairs, and I'm planning on moving.

I ended up moving out within one month of move-in due to the above problems. It cost me almost $2000, but it was worth it to regain my sanity. I will never move into a newer community again. I've lived in a community built in early 70's for the last year and 1/2 and I've NEVER heard a single peep from my neighbors.
