Opinion sliding downhill

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
We moved into this complex in the fall of 2007 and loved it...at first. The floorplans are extremely roomy, the staff friendly, and there are lots and lots of amenities. Even though it's a bit out of the way if you work downtown, it's really close to mopac so it's a quick drive. So that's the positive.
Now for the negative
1. Paper thin walls - I can hear every sound my neighbors make including conversations. And I'm fairly hard of hearing. This is all around too, upstairs, downstairs, not just common walls. I had to purchase a large fan to create enough ambiant noise to drown it all out. This doesn't do any good when my downstairs neighbors play Guitar Hero till 6am on a weeknight.
2. One dumpster for entire complex - I know this sounds like not that big of deal but trust me, it becomes an issue real quick. The apartment does offer trash pick up twice a week but this barely puts a dent in the problem. There's a literal mountain of garbage by the weeks end. Also there are recylcing containers but the size meant for home use, not for 500 people. The dumpster is located at the front entrance, and I live towards the back. So if I have garbage on a non-trash day like the weekend, I'm walking a couple hundred yards with trash.
3. No rent dropbox - This is the only apartment complex of this size I've heard of that doesnt have a mail slot. Once again, on the surface this doesn't seem like a big deal. Until you have to work late a few days in a row, or you go on vacation and need someone to drop off your rent check for you. Then your in trouble.
4. Leash law often ignored - I'm a dog owner and Deerfield is extremely pet friendly as far as layout. There's even a really nice dog park. But the problem is lots of residents let their dogs run all over the complex without a leash. And not just small dogs, labs, boxers, 60 pound. I've had to break up more than one dog fight becuase a large dog has rushed up aggressively, teeth snarling. In the apartment managments defense, I havent filed a complaint about this but this is something a potential leaser should know.
5. Horrific parking - There are very limited parking spots which is very shocking considering the size of the complex. The reason for this is that Deerfield offers covered parking spots for a $25.00 a month fee. So there are dozens of empty spots under the car ports, while the normal spaces are jammed packed. Also there is only visitor parking outside the main gate, and only about a dozen. If a friend parks inside after 7 they get towed. And they dont play around.
6. Cost - This is a luxury apartment and you do get quite a lot. But the cost is what a house payment would be. I've looked around and have found similiar apartments for close to $600 less than what I'm currently paying. Even other "luxury" apartments often come in a good $300 cheaper. Your paying all that extra for the "extras" like Saturday Brunch, indoor basketball court, etc. If you dont plan on using these features, which most people dont appear too, your wasting money. Furthermore since it's expensive roommates often double up. My wife and I have 5 college age people living below us (I'm only 29 so not a huge age gap), and noise is becoming a real issue. The apartment is not meant to hold that many people and when you have that many roommates weekly parties are a guranteed annoyance with so thin walls.
Overall I'd say this isn't a bad place to live, but it's a crap shoot. You get quite neighbors, and love "extras" hard to beat. You hate constant noise and think of an apartment as a place to crash at night, look elsewhere.
