Dirty, broken down, impossible living situation

I have had cockroach infestations even though my apartment is very clean. COCKROACHES IN MY DISHWASHER. Cockroaches in my cupboards, behind my bookshelves, in my (empty) sink. I now keep all of my dishes and silverware in large sealed tupperware containers. (I still see cockroaches) I called the real estate manager who did send a bug killer guy who told me that they only pay to spray every other month, even though there's no way to get rid of the problem at that rate. He also told me that even if you're really clean (my kitchen is literally spotless), the roaches travel through the walls, so there's nothing you can do to avoid them.
My water is regularly shut off, and if it weren't for my boyfriend's apartment, there would have been a few times that I would have had to go to work without a shower or - worse - half wet! I get no warning for any of this. When I complained about this, the agents said there was nothing they could do.
Water shut-off is not the only thing I'm not warned about. One Saturday I returned early in the morning to my apartment only to be refused entry because they were replacing the concrete on the second-floor landing which lead to my door. I was told I wouldn't be able to enter my apartment until the next day. Not only was I planning to work in my apartment that day, I have a cat who I need to feed throughout the day. The construction workers nicely laid down a 1x4 so I could enter my apartment to rescue my cat and retrieve some of my work materials before finding an alternate location. WHERE WOULD I HAVE SLEPT IF NOT FOR MY BOYFRIEND'S HOUSE'
Lastly, I have received 2 non-working keys to the on-site laundry room. I have called again without results and just called today to complain about the concrete (which they claimed was not their fault) in the hopes that I will finally receive the correct key. During this conversation, I was told that during the concrete construction, a gas main was cut, so they had to turn off the gas temporarily and that I should check my pilot lights to make sure that they are on... What if I hadn't called' Were they ever going to mention this to me'
I know it's cheap, but it's not worth it. Find an extra $25-$50/month and get a nicer place. You will thank yourself later.

Oh wow. I lived there for 3 years and moved because of a ridonculous raise in rent (there was a big exodus of long time tenants for that reason). At that price, like you said, ofr another $25 you could get a bigger or nicer apartment. With the lack of amenities or style or size the one thing the place had going for itself was good management. It sounds like I got out just in time. It's almost impossible to find good rental housing in Austin. It's either overpriced or falling apart.
