My wife and I moved into Eastside Commons in July '08, and in no less than 6 months:
1. our neighbor's car was broken into
2. our car was illegally towed from our 'reserved' spot (with parking tag clearly visible)
3. there have been 3 different 'managers' and 5 different maintenance personnel (but of course no more than 1 at a time, that would require they actually put some of the rent back into the property)
4. one of our neighbors was strangled by her ex-
5. they claim 'free internet' but that actually means 'pay for internet' (oh yeah, and you only get one provider to choose from, and it's grande)
6. since the security is non-existent, there are often vagrants and other non-residents 'passing through' to steal bikes and/or solicit hand-outs
7. and we were the victim's of an attempted armed-break in
after politely requesting to be released from our lease so we could live free of fear of having a shotgun coming through our front door, we were lied to several times by the 'manager' (I use that term extremely loosely), and it took numerous phone calls, several blatant lies from ------- the 'manager', and finally a certified letter to the corporate office in CA to finally get a positive response.
this is one of the only complexes in the area with gates, but do not let that fool you. we mistakenly assumed that having resident-only accessible gates would make the place safer. this normally might be the case, however in the time that we have lived here, none of the 3 gates have ever functioned properly. we asked management to fix the gates, and their remedy was to remove the deadbolts. nice.
all of the terrible things other people have written about this complex are absolutely true.
other terrible things about Eastside Commons:
there is only 1 maintenance person and he is obviously overworked
there is only 1 'manager' and she is a lying sack of ****
they make you pay 'pet-rent' and it does not pay for anything
maintenance requests probably get put into a black hole
our central air/heat has not worked for more than 2 weeks at a time
there is one good thing about Eastside Commons, and that is that the people who live there are mostly nice. it is too bad that they are just numbers on a balance sheet in california, however.

===UPDATE===

Shortly after being legally released from our contract term (we have signed legal documents in duplicate), we received a bill for nearly $7000 dollars requiring us to pay accelerated rent, a "special chargeback fee" [whatever that is], cleaning and painting fees (after we had a move-out walkthrough with ------- (the 'manager') stating that we would not be charged for cleaning or repairs [there was nothing needing repair]), and re-letting fees.

Eastside Commons is 'managed' by a bunch of crooks.
I urge anyone who [unfortunately] lives there to get EVERYTHING in writing, as -------'s word is good for nothing. Even the documents she signs are worthless unless you have a photocopy. And don't let her tell you her "printer is down" because she is probably lying. She is great at lying. Actually she is a terrible liar, she just does it often enough that you would think she would be good at it by now.

After several less-than-pleasant phone calls to Lighthouse Management in California and the local 'management' office on site, we were able to get the situation rectified. If we had not saved copies of everything, we would have been in trouble [they go out of their way to not provide anything in writing, so they plan on you not having documents].

p.s. I have seen two different "maintenance" personnel "clean" the pool by pouring clorox bleach (from the bottle) directly into the water. The pool is wonderful if you don't mind getting chemical burns.

OH That has ------- written ALL over it!! She is a slumlord and doesn't care ONE bit about Eastside Commons. She will be gone soon TRUST ME!! just like every other manager has left. The old manager broke her neck to clean up this property. There was dog feces all over the property and the grass was tall and filled with fleas. This company only cares about making money and doesn't care about the property. After the old manager left this property went to the DUMPS!!! She had no help and was left there to clean the laundry rooms (which I have NEVER seen ------- do) and she was always at work (which ------- NEVER is) I moved out recently but wanted to put my two cents in about this over priced propety!! Very unprofessional and they do NOT CARE!!Karma is a *****!!! When you treat your residents like crap as well as the employees you get what you deserve!!!!

I live at Eastside Commons and I happen to like living in the community.I am a UT Grad and it is close to downtown and especially I like hanging out at the coffee shop! The Pool is great~! I suppose you can have a BAD EXPERIENCE no matter where you choose to live and everyone is responsible for one's own safety. Crime can happen anywhere anytime. No apartment community is crime Free,or free from problems and well I like the place.

never said i didn't like the community. never said i thought eastside commons would be crime free. my unsatisfied review of the complex comes from the "manager's" response to the several items listed in my review. i realize that crime happens anywhere, but shittastic slumlords do not. only at eastside commons. :) ps. still smells like -------
