Since I moved into my apartment in late 2008, I've seen it all: a disgusting green pool (in the summer!), a cricket invasion, cars being broken into on a weekly basis, a man who digs through the dumpster in the back and once tried to sell me pantyhouse, 4 different maintenance guys, and 2 different managers. Oh, and rats.
Remember that horrible hailstorm last year' Yeah - there were windows that didn't get fixed for at least 2 weeks, but luckily, mine were replaced no later than 24 hours after the storm. There were blinds in the windows that looked like they had been taken a bite out of by a shark that weren't replaced for months.
I've been considerably lucky that my car hasn't been broken into yet, but every morning I walk to my car, I am scared that it has been. I would never walk anywhere in this neighborhood at night except straight down Manor to El Chilito, which is a lifesaver.
I have had rats off and on for the past few months. I don't even cook in my apartment because the ventilation hood stops inside the cabinet, so I hardly have food in the apartment. I haven't seen one in over a month, so I hope maintenance fixed that problem.
I can say that they new manager seems nice and like she's actually going to try to appease the residents' pleas to improve their living situation. This place is like a ghost town - walking to my apartment, I pass by 4 vacant apartments. If it weren't for the rats, and a lack of dishwasher, I'd probably end up staying a little longer. Roscoe Properties has just bought out a bunch of properties on the other side of the street, and they do good work remodeling (I have a friend who lives in one of their properties down south) and if I stay in the neighborhood, I may try them out.
