First impressions...

From the outside, this complex looks somewhat old and rundown and this first impression is not contradicted when one actually sees the inside of the apartments. The maintenance staff was fairly responsive and competetent at fixing most problems and pest control was done on a regular basis but there were some underlying problems that could really only be solved by a complete renovation beyond the standard recarpeting and repainting treatment done very few years.

I lived here because it was one of the cheapest places to live that was relatively close to campus. It was also close to some interesting sthopping destinations such as Forbidden Fruit and Limbo (next to the Flighpath coffeeshop). Another advanatge was it gave me an oppurtunity to practice conversational spanish. There were also some nice people who came by on a regular basis to sell freshly made cheese and bread, tamales and ice cream. It was also quieter than some "student" apartment complexes I had lived in before.

However, it had some problems. For example, the number of visitor parking spaces was very limited and even if a visitor miraculously found a free space, they still risked being towed as the towing company would almost always claim the space was not clearly marked. My brother's car got towed when he was visiting from Chicago and the same night they towed numerous other cars including some belonging to apartment staff members. A week later his car was missing again and although we immediately suspected the towing company got it again (perhaps because they wanted to get back at my brother for paying the $150 impound and storage fee with unrolled nickels and dimes), we discovered that it had been actually stolen and abandoned near downtown after being involved in a police chase that resulted in three of the tires being flattened.
