They got me good

Lived here for 3 years. First two years were great. Last year they inexplicably held a rent check and didn't try to run it. I check my online account info religiously and that's how I know. The trick came when I needed to move out and they would not let me break my lease. I found a replacement to stay for the last couple of months of my lease, and moved him in. The minute that he moved in, they pulled me aside and told me that I needed to come up with all kinds of late fees and an entire rent check or I would be evicted. Something was amiss. I was unable (and unwilling) to come up with this money (they never gave me the original check back) and so I was evicted.

During my stay at the Estates, I was generally happy, but I did have a few complaints.

First, the parking situation is not good. There is generally going to be a parking spot available for you, but you might have to park on the other side of the apartment complex in order to get one. That's not an exaggeration. You might have to walk across the complex to get to your car.

Second, there was a problem with people allowing their pets off the leash and not collecting their pet waste. A guy had his dog killed as it was run over by a car right in front of him as a result. Despite the speed bumps, people tended to drive too fast, and if you let Fluffy off his leash, he's at risk. Also, watch where you walk.

There were some run-of-the-mill neighbor noise problems, but that's not unusual for apartment living.

The lake was fun to walk around, and you would often find people floating around in the lake in rafts or small boats when the weather was nice.

Other than the rather dodgy situation with the management and the issues noted above, I didn't have any other issues while living here and wouldn't have a problem recommending it to someone who understood the situation.

Okay, maybe this is a dumb question but what do you mean by "held a rent check and didn't try to run it." Did they just not cash the check? Also, how could they evict you when you already found someone to take over your lease? I mean, at that point, you probably moved out, right? I'm asking these questions since I live here and might be moving out before the end of my lease. Thanks!
