GREAT scenery, good and bad staff

I had always wanted to live in these apartments. I was looking for a new place cuz the last apartments I lived in were leaking and my loud neighbors were -------s -- and management didn't help. But I've never encountered totally professional apartment management. The Falls were offering great move-in specials like all the other apartments around town, so I moved in. When I moved into The Falls, my first day was HORRIBLE. The only thing that had been done to my apartment was that the carpet was steamcleaned. The apartment was vacant for at least a month, but nothing else had been done. When I moved in, the fridge was broken, the walls hadn't been painted, the floors were dirty, part of the kickboard in the kitchen was sticking out, the kitchen counters and sink were badly stained, and the stove (a dinosaur, but it's clean and it works; well, except for the timer) was in the middle of the kitchen. The maintenance supervisor gave me some song and dance about how they had to let some staff go so that's why my apartment wasn't ready to move in to. But they did come over and fix everything the next day (a Saturday) except for the kitchen counters which needed to be repainted and were fixed the following week by an independent business; but the walls have not been painted. This was under a previous manager. I haven't had any major problems under the new manager. I don't think the office is very professionally run (things like unreturned phone calls, and my last lease papers weren't ready when they were supposed to be so I wasted two lunch hours instead of one getting those signed). From my experience, the new maintenance supervisor is on the ball, though, and always very cooperative. I still have problems from time to time with neighbors playing their music loud but a knock on the door or a note left on the door puts a halt to it for a little while at least. The layout of the 1 BR puts the closets and utility room between me and my next-door neighbor which helps muffle some noise. The electricity bill in the winter is way high, even trying to conserve. No insulation to speak of. And this is the first place where I've had to pay my own water. But I LOVE the location; it's minutes from work, shopping, my dr, and dentist. And my view is AWESOME and I have trees outside every window. The woods on either side of the complex are great to walk in, and the area along the creek is also a beautiful stroll. I think they've done a great job with the landscaping. Like I said, I've never dealt with a completely competant landlord and there will always be loud inconsiderate neighbors, even if you live in a house. Parking around my building can get pretty tight. I'm aware of the car break-ins but my car's been OK. And from what I understand the assault that happened recently was on the wife of a cop who lives in the complex and was perpetrated by someone the cop helped to evict, so it wasn't a random crime. As far as MY apartment experiences go, this is the best. It's not fantastic (I mean, hey, it's a rental property), but it's not bad.
