Yo!

I will miss living here.

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002

My boyfriend and I lived at Gables for a year, and we never had any problems (other than a few somewhat noisy neighbors - not Gables fault). Our apartment was very nice and spacious. We had a great, 2nd level view of Central Park. All of our appliances (made by Whirlpool) - washer, dryer, stove, dishwasher - were fairly new and always working properly. Management was wonderful at Gables! They were very attentive and helpful. This was a blessing after living at an apartment complex with a staff from hell - a.k.a Melrose apartments near Riverside Dr. (never rent there).

There were really only two occasions when we needed Gables maintenance to take care of some typical plumbing and air conditioning problems (clogged bathtub pipe, running toilet, and clogged A/C drain pan), and they were there immediately. The location was perfect... close to Central Market, shopping, Central Park, campus. Something else I liked about Gables was that residents there seemed more mature, as opposed to typical apartments close to UT. There was definitely a balance of young and older adults. It was usually very quiet. The walls in our apartment seemed much thicker than those in our previous apartment. We were never aware of any disturbances other than those coming from some of the noisiest and most violent college guys living directly underneath us. (They were always screaming and fighting... I doubt even the thickest, most insulated walls could have shut them out though.)

I loved nearly everything about Gables. Management was also good about giving our $300 security deposit back. We received it one week after moving out. No problems. The only thing I somewhat disliked about Gables was that rent was relatively expensive there. Our apartment was one of the largest floorplans available and we payed $1,740 a month. Utilities were billed separately - water, electricity, gas. So it was near $2,000 a month. However, I think the higher rent was well worth it. We really enjoyed living there. We only left because we bought a home of our own.
