Not worth the considerable $

This is a nicely forested complex, but the bug infestation is considerable (don?t live on the ground floor!).
I originally thought my upstairs neighbor was a moose from all the thumping around, but then I read about the noise issues and flimsy construction, so it could very well be that my ceiling (the upstairs floor) isn?t very well insulated. He's probably still a moose, tho!
Be prepared to pay for EVERYTHING. Not only do they ding you separately for water, they also charge separately for trash pickup and for pest control services. Also, while the apartments have alarm keypads, to have them actually work is an extra charge per month (and it ain?t cheap!) I don?t know about you, but where I came from, all that stuff was considered part of the rent! The rental rates (although a bit lower than normal because of the recession) are high enough here that you?d think they wouldn?t have to nickel-and-dime you for every little thing. I guess that?s life in a big corporate apartment complex. You?re just a number.
The staff seems a bit harried and/or stretched too thin. They?re pleasant, but it always appears that they?re rushing you through so that they can deal with 515 other problems. I left a note in the night box for them to call and they didn't. A couple days later, I called during business hours and got voice mail. I left a message for them to call and they didn't. When I finally left work early to stop by the office in person and explained that I had called and left a note previously but got no response, the woman didn't bat an eye or offer an apology.
Maintenance is hard to assess. So far, one request was filled with lightning speed, and the other one fell into a black hole and was totally forgotten. I think it may have something to do with the office staff being so busy.
Don?t let the front gate fool you into thinking it?s a "secure" complex - not only does the gate not go all the way around the complex, there?s about five dozen ways you can get into the complex from the sides and the back without having to go through a gate! I frequently get fliers hung on my doorknob from solicitors, so that secure gate doesn?t seem to keep many people out!
By the way, here's a strange thing - the switches and plumbing aren't consistent from room to room. In one bathroom the light switch is on the left and the fan is on the right; in the other bathroom it's turned around. In one bedroom the extra switch (which is supposed to control an outlet so you can plug in a lamp) doesn't do anything at all. In one shower you turn the master knob to the left for hot water, and in the other you turn it to the right. Most of the switches are counter-intuitive (the dining room is to the right and the kitchen is to the left but the two switches are reversed; you flip the switch on the left to light up the room on the right). I'm STILL getting used to that. I think it's because they slapped this place together so fast, they didn't spent quality time on the switches.
All in all, I do not think I will renew my lease when the time comes. I might be surprised in the next couple of months, but as it stands, I am disappointed.
