Great at first, downhill from there

I moved in around Thanksgiving '08. I moved to GSC from downtown. When I say downtown I mean 6th and Brazos downtown. This place was great for the first 4 or 5 months. There was under 50% occupancy and it was nice, peaceful and quiet. Here are my major gripes:

1. The staff comes across as being really nice, but after living here for a while, I got used to hearing all sorts of excuses for everything. The best one I heard was when I inquired why there was algae in the pool, making it look green and disgusting. One of the leasing agents said that "since the pool gets such heavy use on the weekends, all of the sunscreen is making the pool green"! Also, they seem to come up with BS reasons why they need access to my apartment. Installing efficient light bulbs, checking fire alarms, and numerous other reasons. This issue has gotten better in the last few months, but at first it was monthly.

2. The mandantory $20 a month for the valet trash service is rediculous. The reason they do it is because the trash chutes are nowhere close to being big enough to accomodate the whole complex. Numerous times the trash chute has been clogged with trash, so people just start leaving stinky trash in the room where the chute is. Also, since the valet trash guy comes Sunday-Thursday night, it is a common occurance for people to forget what day it is and leave their trash outside their door on a Friday night not to be picked up until Sunday. I have complained numerous times to the management, but to no avail. There is supposed to be a warning/fine system in place to prevent this, but nothing ever happens.

3. The pet areas are way too small for the amount of pets that reside here. There is always feces in the grass, sometimes no more that 5 feet away from the trashcan. They do provide pet bags, which are stocked most of the time.

4. Noise is a real issue. I hear my upstairs neighbors when they are just walking around. As mentioned in previous posts, there seems to always be people drinking and making noise at all hours of the night, every day of the week. There have been numerous fire alarms set off, to the point where nobody believes that there is a fire. I watched the "security" tell a few drunks to just keep the noise down when they were swimming around midnight one night. The pool closes at 10pm, but they just kept making noise, which is amplified, since the pool is surrounded on all sides by the building itself.

5. The parking garage was a joke over the summer. The parking garage doors were broken off and on all summer long. My car was one of the numerous cars that got broken in to. People have also posted signs saying that there bikes were stolen. It is nice to be able to park under cover out of the elements though.

6. The business center and club rec room close at 7pm. These amenities aren't for member use as much as they are just used to rent apartments. I don't know why the business center isn't open, they have locks on the doors that only residents can open. The gym is open 24/7, but I hear that the TV was stolen out of the gym a few months ago.

These are the major issues off the top of my head. I feel a lot of these issues wouldn't be issues if they didn't rent to inconsiderate douchebags. If you value your peace and quiet, I wouldn't recommend moving here. If you like to get hammered and be inconsiderate of your neighbors, move in! You will fit right in!
