Don't say I didn't warn you...

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
Over Christmas 2003, this complex was taken over by new management. New management fixes things when asked, fairly promptly, but is always leaving us antagonistic notes like "Failure to pay this $20.00 water bill that we gave you April 6th within fifteen days will result in us starting eviction proceedings." God forbid they give you the water bill at a time convenient to paying it with your rent in one check. One of the office ladies is civil and the other one is evil incarnate.
The good things about my apartment are: it's huge, and it's cheap. It has stained concrete floors. My building, which is far from the parking lot, is quiet. Not all of them are. The landscaping is pretty.
Bad things:
Landscaping will no longer be pretty with time: management has fired the little old lady who's been doing it for the past twenty years.
Some of the buildings have rats.
My appliances are very old and showing their wear. Stove top is slanted, pilot lights constantly going out, oven dial so worn you can't tell what temperature your food is. Dishwasher doesn't get dishes very clean. AC sets apartment at some random temperature that varies by day.
If you have a a car stereo better than a cassette player, someone will break your car window and steal it for you.
Also, apartment design is bizarre. Although there is a ton of space (850 sq foot 1 bedroom), the kitchen is tiny, has no counterspace, a pantry too small to fit a normal amount of food in, and most of the cupboards are too high for anyone under six feet tall to reach.
One more rant -
My floor is stained concrete. How on earth can a cat do enough damage to it to justify a 400 dollar (200 nonrefundable) pet deposit'
My lease cannot run out soon enough. 550 a month seems like a steal for this much space, but it's really not.
