My name is Todd Paulson and I am the Buisness Manager for High Oaks Apartments. I would like to take a moment to respond to some of the comments given by the author of this review.
First, thank you for the positives. I welcome any and all feedback from all of our resdidents.
I would like to know what this individual feels is average security. What's more, I would love for the opportunity to visit with this individual. Please feel free to stop by the office so we may address these issues for you.
Light checks are performed nightly by a patrol service. High Oaks is appropriately named. Lots of trees equals less ambiant light. In the last year we have spent aproximately $25,000 on lighting alone. As with any service request, when a light is reported out our team moves quickly to repair it. We have the Lead Service Tech of the year (2004) and our Service Team won Service Team of the quarter for the first quarter of this year in our region (aprox. 30 communities competed).
I have worked at many different apartment communities in many different parts of town and I can tell you one fact around car break ins. Any car that has ever been broken into left something in the open that was worth taking. It ranges from the removable face on the stereo to a purse/wallet to the 500 CD storage case.
I have worked here for 18 months and have no knowledge of any sexual assaults on site. For facts, not opinions, you may log onto the Austin Police Deparment website.
Again I encourage anyone with any questions to contact me in our leasing office. The phone number is 512-345-8823.
Thank you for your interest in our community!

Okay, I'm bored and don't have a life. I can't fathom why I am reading reviews for an apartment I lived in 3 years ago, let alone responding to a review from nearly 2 years ago. However, Todd's statement (copied at the top of this comment) just blows my mind. That is not a fact. That is your opinion. I agree that the likelihood of your car getting broken in to increases if you leave such items out in the open, but the absence of them does not reduce the likelihood of a break-in to zero. I had one car (jeep wrangler) broken in two twice while parked at high oaks (and another time a different car, honda civic, was stolen). I _DID NOT_ leave anything in the open - in fact I left nothing in the car. Zero. Zilch. Nada. My radio was a CASSETTE PLAYER! No cds, no wallet, nothing was left in the car (not just out of sight). So, Todd, while I doubt you still work at high oaks anymore, quit blaming the victim for car break ins.
