This Apartment complex is run by incompetent fools. They are incredibly slow in responding to any maintenance request and do a poor job on the requested repair once they do respond.
I lived at this complex for 5 years and the first 2 years were great. However, once the several management changes took place, the customer service took a steep nose-dive. Combined with the fact that the complex chose to raise my rent $100 upon inquiring about signing another 13-month lease (for the 6th time), I made the decision to move out. Once I moved out, I was told my security deposit would cover the repair and removal of the remainder of my trash from the apartment. I even asked the office to clarify the fact that my security deposit would cover the cost so that I didn't have to go back after work and finish cleaning.
2 months after moving out, I receive a phone call from a collections agency telling me that I owe High Oaks money for services rendered after move-out. High Oaks never called or made any attempt to contact me, but rather chose to turn my account over to a collections agency, which could have possibly hurt my credit. When I called the High Oaks office to inquire about the charges, the manager had the audacity to talk down to me as if I was in the wrong. I just wanted to know what they were charging me for, but they acted like it was classified material. The current management would be better at their job if they could remove their craniums from their lower intestines.
I strongly advise against living in this old (built in 1983) complex and would recommend finding another, friendlier complex run by a staff that actually cares about its residents and has a commitment to their satisfaction.

from reading this, it sounds as if you had possibly left your place in poor condition. um, if you do that, don't you expect to pay for it. i would. and after living here for 6 months i got a renewal letter that raised my rent as well, when i questioned them about it it was because the market for that area went up, which is understandable, to those that have patience and understanding. plus, they have to get us as close to what they rent it for without exceeding $60. that's what was explained to me at least. but that's because i probably asked in a nice way and not a frustrated manner.

OK, gokusan, wouldn't you have had to be in the writer's shoes to know what shape the apartment was in??? Lots of assumptions here. And, if the office said that the deposit would cover everything, then perhaps the ball is in management's court in terms of covering cost.
On the other hand, it doesn't seem quite right to not clean the apartment which is what seems to have happened. People, be civil. Do the right thing. Clean your own home, even if you're leaving it!
