If you like critters...

...clawing their way out of your cieling into your kitchen then this is the place for you. Seriously. I have raccoons or possums or something much larger and more aggressive than rats in my floors, walls and cielings. One of them literally dug through the insulation and dry wall around the wiring of my kitchen light fixture. I saw its damn paw trying to reach through until I plugged the hole up!
Part of the problem is the "trash valet" - there are only two dumpsters that I know of in the entire complex and they are filled to overflowing every week. You're allowed to leave your trush on the curb every Monday and Thrusday morning for pick-up but before they collect it (not usually before noon) it's a feeding frenzy for all the local critters. Another problem is a resident in my building feeding all the stray cats...and skunks and 'coons and whatever else is around. The management wrote a general letter to all residents but has taken no specific action and they won't cough up the money to hire professional trappers to get the animals out of the buildings and relocated. And to top it off the maintenance and management staff are beyond rude.
The bottom line is most apartments are set up to nickel and dime you, find ways to screw you out of your deposits, and be generally useless when it comes to maintenance. High Oaks is no exception. They are unbelievably irresponsible when it comes to grounds maintenance, though, and the combination of the trash and varmint problem is really starting to make the place seem unsanitary...and all this for more than $900 a month! I can't wait to get out.
