DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!

I lived at Highlands Hill Country for over two years. Recently signed a lease for the third year. Haven't really had too much to complain about--the noise is not really a problem for the third floor apartments, good floor plan, big kitchen. My maintenance problems, which have been few, were always resolved fairly quickly. However....

Yes, there is a BIG problem with crime. There are many people who have had their cars broken into and even stolen from this property. For a while, they employed a security guard to watch the property at night, which was reassuring, but I guess they figured that they could do away with this service when some of the initial panic from the thefts died down. I agree with other reviewers, for the money you could definitely live somewhere with better security.

The main reason why I chose to complete this evaluation and to WARN people away from this complex is this: I believe that the managment is intentionally duplicitious in their dealings with the tenants. All is well, perhaps, as long as you do not present a problem and end your lease on time. If, however, as was the case with me, you are transferred out of state and are forced to break your lease, suddenly the management's mask comes off and you can really see the true colors. They tried HARD to swindle me out of money, giving me inaccurate information about my lease contract, and ultimately forcing me to consult an attorney to protect my rights.

Bottom line, for the money, do yourself a favor and move somewhere else. There are plenty of brand new, beautiful apartments in south Austin near Mopac and Wm. Cannon where you would be better off spending your money, and where you would hopefully deal with management who are more honest and forthright.
