THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!!

I was supposed to move into this apartment in the middle of July, key word being SUPPOSED...
I relocated from California and when I initially came to Austin looking at apartments, they showed me a model which apparently has been upgraded. When I asked if I could see the actual apartment, I was told since the residents were still there they weren't able to let me see it.
So based upon the model, I started the leasing process(thank goodness i didn't sign the lease) and when I returned to Austin a month later, I requested to see the apartment before I actually moved in and what I saw was a nasty, unmaintained hole that was being put off as an apartment. It was clear to me as soon as I walked in that I had been duped. There was a ceiling fan in the middle of the living room that was an electrical hazzard. They didn't even bother wiring it properly, there was a cord from the middle of the ceiling stretching across the room to the electrical socket, the kitchen appliances were old and worn and I won't even start in on the bathroom.
Needless to say I immediately returned to the leasing office (which isn't friendly in the least) and advised that I would not be moving in because they had done the old switch and bait routine. I asked if I would receive my $50 deposit back and they said no. I figured it would be more of a hassle trying to fight them then just letting them keep it..
My advice: FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE

I consider it a hazzard when you cannot walk through every part of your living room without the fear of being choked. If that was the case, they could string it along the ceiling, to the wall, to the socket and not across the room. So maybe it wasn't exactly an "electrical" hazzard, but it definitely wasn't safe.

The fan isn't an electrical hazard. The older apartment complexes, in order to make things more convenient for residents, install exposed cord fans since it wasn't popular in the 80's to install outlets to have fans inside the wall. It's actually a very popular method and unless actual wires were exposed, it's not an electrical hazard.

SMYLEE, the best fifty dollars you ever spent was walking away from this poorly constructed, poorly maintained and poorly managed apartment complex. I used to live there and the exposed wiring/chain on the ceiling fan always got in the way and looked extremely tacky.
