I lived at Hunters Chase four years ago and it was great. The management was friendly and competent. I moved away then returned back to Austin and decided to rent there a second time. This was the biggest mistake of my life when it comes to renting an apartment and I've rented several. I have an excellent rent history.
The management at Hunters Chase has been replaced by people who are rude and don't give a damn. By far the rudest and most unconcerned and unresponsive of any place I have lived. Someone WAS indeed shot in the head and there are lots of other illegal things going on all the time that the management chooses to completely ignore and actually defend as if it's a person's right to break the law if they choose. This is actually what you are told by management when you call them. Drunks loitering on the stairways at night, urinating and exposing themselves, is the last thing you want to come home and see after a days work. Not once, not twice, but several times.
I say expensive because Hunters Chase apartments are so poorly insulated and constructed that nearly all your heating and air conditioning goes out the cracks. I moved to my new apartment a year ago and even though the rent is higher at my new place it is energy efficient and is consistently cheaper overall because of the lower cost to heat and cool it. And not by a small amount either. My electric bill is usually one-half what it was at Hunters Chase. The management at my new apartment is excellent and tries very hard to make it a good home for us. Don't be fooled by slightly lower rent because you will pay a fortune in energy costs if you rent at Hunters Chase.
There would never be a reason for me to give negative feedback to any apartment or business that didn't justly deserve it. I do this because I hope it helps anyone who is apartment hunting and is on the fence about this place. It costs a lot of money to move and money is too hard to come by to give away to these apartments.

I currently live at Hunter's Chase, and have to at least speak my mind about the so called review you gave. It looks to me like you lived here over a year ago, and just now decided to give reviews. Seems a but strange to me, so I thought I would share my thoughts. The staff here is anything but rude. I have never had a bad experience with the office staff when I presented a concern. I have yet to see anyone "urinating" on the property and doubt I will. I am sure there are some residents that may not be the best of people, but you will find that at ANY apartment in Austin. As far as the atmosphere, cost, location and amenities, I have been 100% satisfied with my time here.
