New people, new problems

The new maintenance man is terrible. So far, he's 0 for 2 in terms of repairs to my apartment. He likes to tell people with leaking dishwashers that they're causing the problem by using too much soap. He demonstrates approximately the same mental capacity as a particularly stupid walnut, and his English is terrible. They keep having to bring in maintenance people from Le Montreaux to fix things in my apartment. Why do they have a maintenance guy on staff if he can't fix anything' Don't believe their claim that they have emergency maintenance, either. I've tried calling it twice, once when my roof started leaking, and once when my AC went out. In both cases, it would have been just as effective to leave a voicemail for the office staff. I also have a rather bizarre problem with being able to smell what my downstairs neighbor is cooking. For some reason, the scent of ramen noodles and canned soup tends to linger in my bathroom for days after he's done fixing them...yum!
I really liked Deanna, the old manager, but she was sent to Le Montreaux, Juniper's sister property. I don't really know anything about the new management except that they had a package for me in the office that sat there for a month and they never made any attempt to contact me. They're trying to raise my rent on a one- bedroom (I think it's the 1B floorplan) from $670 to $719. They're also not good at supervising the idiot maintenance guy. Dog feces and cigarette butts abound in the area outside my apartment- a problem that did not exist when I moved in last May- and my apartment has a scenic view of...the parking lot! I can do better elsewhere, especially considering that Juniper doesn't have balconies, and that there are no washer/dryer connections in their one-bedrooms. The gates are a giant pain in the derriere, especially considering that the call box doesn't always work and the card reader was once demolished by a truck.
If you're interested in apartments in the area and don't mind living away from the UT shuttle route, you might want to check out Le Montreaux.

No, I wrote the original review and am in no way associated with Le Montreaux. I went to live in the Arboretum area (High Oaks apartments) after moving away from Juniper, and I have to say that my experience with maintenance has been VASTLY better, even though High Oaks seems to get poor reviews on this site. I sincerely hope Juniper has improved since I lived there...they really just needed to fire the incompetent maintenance guy. It was otherwise an OK property.
