First few years weren't toooo bad: place was cheap, and looked it. Stank, maintenance was pretty slow, but you get what you pay for. And I was walking to RLM every day, so the location was pretty good. Then the last year...
The ceiling of my bedroom leaked after rain for a solid year. At one point, it grew so large, after a major rain drips would be coming down across nearly the entire length of the ceiling. At another, after even a minor twenty-minute drizzle, multiple buckets and multiple bucket-emptying trips plus plastic sheeting were required to keep the carpet from being soaked. It got so bad, three-foot strips of plaster peeled away from the ceiling like vines in a jungle; and by that point the room smelt like a jungle too.
First time the leak re-occurred after they "fixed" it, I didn't discover it until after several hours. Water had already destroyed my computer and a large quantity of my notes and papers.
There's cheap and then there's just useless. If the ceiling doesn't keep the rain out what good is an apartment at all' I'd have been better off living in a tent.
Avoid Ely like the plague.
