I moved to Austin last year because I wanted to live in Austin. I wanted to sign a six month lease. I did not have a job back then, but had enough savings in my bank to pay more than 2 years of rent. The apartment manager Roberta would not let me rent unless I paid rent for the entire six months lease period upfront.

Most other apartments were willing to let me rent just by checking my credit history. I chose Laurel Woods because they were cheaper than other apartments.

I had good neighbours at this complex. It is a quiet community. The apartments are old. but did not have many maintenance problems.

When I moved out after a year, I did not get my deposit back. I was charged aroung 100$ for carpet cleaning. I had vacuumed and cleaned the carpet before I left, I don't think the carpet was in bad shape. Most apartment clean the carpet anyway when a tenant moves out. But this apartment decided to charge me for carpet cleaning.

Every apartment I've looked at required that my salary be three times the rent. I've been to dozens of complexes all over town, and that was the case everywhere. Of course they don't want to rent to someone who doesn't have a job. They're running a business and need to keep it afloat.
