I've lived here for a few years now and felt I should take a few minutes to write about my experience living at Laurel Woods. When I was shopping for apartments in North Austin I literally looked at almost every complex, compared most amenities and at the time knew that for the money and the space, Laurel Woods was the best buy in North Austin.

When I toured the complex it was obvious that it was a bit older ( I believe it was built in the 80s ) and not as "pretty" as other complexes. I remember their biggest selling point was how well constructed the complex is and how it's built to condominium specs. Well, they weren't lying -- in all my time here I have never heard my neighbor or been bothered by excess noise. These buildings are as sturdy as they come, which is extremely refreshing as I'm used to being able to hear my neighbors when living in an apartment.

We've had only a handful of issues while living here but the Laurel Woods staff/maitenence handled it usually immediately. They're always prompt and fix the problem first time around.

The biggest selling point with Laurel Woods was how great of a value it is, as you could get a 1BR or 2BR for $75-200 less than other complexes in the area. While the grounds aren't as immaculate as other complexes, it's still well kept and presentable.

My only gripe with Laurel Woods is that while you sacrificed some amenities for a bit lower cost, they're slowly raising the rents to the point where I've seriously considered moving. I just hope they don't get carried away, because I really do like it here.

Overall, I really do enjoy it here. I would recommend it to my friends, family and just about anyone. Whoever wrote those reviews about how "horrendous/unsafe" it is here is 100% Full of ----. In my time here I've never heard of there being vandalism issues, car thefts, break-ins or anything to warrant an outrageous review like that. It's actually quite quiet and tucked away off 183 in an extremely convenient location. You can't really ask for too much more.
