Uncaring Owner Lets Apartments Fall To Pieces...Do NOT Live here

I have been disappointed with these apartments from the start. The day we moved in, we walked into the apartment to be greeted by a kitchen floor littered with spaghetti, a counter topped with trash and a bucket of motor oil, and disgustingly feces-clogged-up toilet (without a lid for the tank...which they told us would be fixed back in November when we reserved the place) that filled the bathroom with such a stench that we could not step in there without gagging. If you don't believe me, check out the pictures...I was so shocked and disgusted by the condition of the unit that I took plenty of pics. Also, there was a whole bunch of trash behind the stove, including an oven mitt that was a huge fire hazard...not to mention there was no smoke alarm! Irate, my fiance and I went to the management only to be told that they had "cleaned the unit" (only the floor had been steam cleaned, everything else was FILTHY). We had to fix that nasty toilet ourselves. The blinds do not work, the screens are missing from the windows, and the vinyl flooring in the bathroom and kitchen has peeled to expose the floor beneath, but these have never been fixed, despite our written complaints.

The only good thing about these apartments is that they are big, and (used to be) cheap for the location (about 6 blocks from UT). We pay $550 a month right now, but they've already raised the new rent to $650, and it is not worth living here...your money could be better spent somewhere else. It is very noisy here, the walls are thin enough to hear the ruckus going on outside, and there is trash EVERYWHERE. The dumpster gets so full that people just chuck their trash onto the street. It smells like rotting garbage here, and often garbage is thrown into the pool which is a lovely shade of green. Bikes get stolen (even if you have a U-lock, your bike seat will get stolen), and the "laundry facility" (which consists of two money-stealing washers and one dryer that leaves clothes wet) has been vandalized. Also, the maintenance will just come into the apartment without leaving a note, and they've been known to steal stuff from peoples' apartments.

I tried contacting the owner of these apartments directly, but I was told by the management that they weren't allowed to give out his contact information. So you can't affect change here, thanks to the large bureaucracy which is designed to keep residents oppressed and voiceless. There are flagrant health, fire and safety violations everywhere. Live somewhere, anywhere, else, even if it is farther from campus, because a convenient location is not enough to make up for the huge downsides of living here.
