Was Quiet and comfortable once upon a time

The following was my original review from 2005. I rated it a 4 and recommended it back then. Not any more. Please see the second half for the current review...

This is my first experience living in an apartment and I find it rather pleasant.

The grounds are well kept and clean. The groundkeepers do a great job of cleaning up very quickly. No trash is left laying around for a second day.

The entry gates have worked without fail since I've been here and it feels safe. The grounds are well lit at night.

Maintenance seems to be responsive and on target. I had three issues with my apartment so far and the repair folks took care of them quickly with no repeat calls needed. I also reported lights out on the grounds and they were fixed before the next night.

The staff has always been friendly and helpful when I've gone to pick up packages that were too large for the mailbox, drop off my rent or had need of maintenance. They addressed a problem when a resident was parking in my reserved spot and cleared that up diplomatically without having to tow the person's truck.

The residents here for the most part seem to be friendly, educated and respectful of others. When moving in, a neighbor saw me struggling with a washing machine and helped me get it up the stairs. Another neighbor gave me some help with decorating ideas and helped me re-arrange. One person had a flat tire and there were three of us helping to fix that.

My apartment is nicely laid out with a fairly large kitchen, great fireplace and a balcony with an excellent view of trees and the little creek that constantly runs through the grounds.

The creek appears to be spring fed, since it's always running and has little minnows and such. I really like the wildlife that visit the creek such as various birds including a king fisher, dove, a possum, squirrels and some sort of iguana looking thing. I hope to see more as time passes.

It's real close to IH-35 and right on William Cannon, so getting around town is a snap. There's a Target and an HEB within easy walking distance and a bus stop within a block of the entrance. Visitors and family have never had a problem finding a place to park close to my apartment.

EDIT July 10, 2007...

My, how things have changed. When I moved out, the place was spotless and I even had the carpets cleaned. They still charged me for cleaning and only returned a portion of my deposit. Also, they charged me twice for the last month's water bill. Not a big enough problem to submit an official complaint, but I suspect that these tactics are their norm.

Before I left, crime was on the increase. Gunshots and screaming weren't prevalent, as in later reports, but I did hear a little of that toward the end.

The management had gotten worse just before I left. A shame. When I moved in, they seemed so nice and helpful. The management changed twice while I was there and each time, they became less concerned with the tenents and with maintenance. Lights that had been shot out had remained dark for several weeks and were still out when I left.

Dog feces littered the grounds, along with plastic bags and various other trash. The dog feces bags that tenents could just grab out of the convenient containers had all disappeared. The front gate stopped working and was left open for about a month.

I haven't been back to visit. I can only imagine what it has become now.
