It can't possibly be true...(')

I read these reviews long before I moved in. They were frightening and COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE TRUE! Cars being broken into, incompetent staff, roommate assignments from hell, crime, horrible contracts, trash everywhere on the grounds, mold/bugs/infestations...

I moved into a 2/2 in August. When they made me sign the lease and write a check for the deposit BEFORE THEY WOULD EVEN LET ME SEE MY UNIT, I should have turned around. I should have known better. I should have chosen ANY OTHER COMPLEX.

It's funny because I am attempting to write this now, but everything I have to say resembles the entries that I read before moving in... entries that I ignored because I thought 'it can't possibly be true!'.

IT IS.

I have read every single rating (both the 'good' and the bad) to date and let me tell you, they are true. Even the best of the ratings, the ones that say 'you get what you pay for and it's not that bad'. A 2.5 star apartment in a 4th world apartment is also 'not that bad'. Some of the best of them say 'it's not bad if the staff treat me like an idiot, I just avoid them'. Well, the staff DO treat you like an idiot. They refuse to give information in writing, they ignore maintenance requests (we have had an inoperable smoke detector since move-in... ILLEGAL... this is among the LEASE of our problems), they enter your apartment without knocking (I was on my couch in my underwear and a 22 yr/old male Longhorn Landing Rep. entered my apartment without even the slightest hint of a knock), the security gate has not worked since move-in, etc etc etc....

And trust me, you are reading this right now thinking 'this chick is wack!', or some other version relating to how some people can never be satisfied, some people have worse/unlucky experiences.. Trust me, I thought that too! I got that gut feeling that perhaps moving in was a bad choice, but that it COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE THAT BAD...

But seriously... HOW CAN SO MANY PEOPLE TAKE UP THE TIME TO WRITE LENGTHY ESSAYS WARNING YOU TO NOT MOVE IN HERE!!!'!'

I'm a smart girl, and there is no way to truly know how bad something is until I experience it myself. This place was worse than the reviews. Worse than I ever imagined it could be. Two weeks before I moved in, they found a dude who had been shot/killed in our hottub. When we moved in, there was dog feces on the couch/floor/counters. The gym equipment is broken and does not work. The tanning beds do not work. The grounds are disgusting. Our outlets do not work properly because the painters simply painted over the entire wall/outlet. The bathroom fixtures do not work properly. In the bathroom, the painters simply painted over the mold so what at move in time, it looks like there is no mold, but a month or so after move-in, if you complain about the mold that is seeming to COME OUT OF NOWhere, they tell you that you are responsible and must pay to fix!(then, of course, they take the money, paint over it without fixing it, and charge the next person).

When I signed my lease, they told me that in order to get out, all I needed to pay was an extra month's rent and give 30 days notice. DO NOT BE FOOLED! I am so desperate to get out, I am paying CASH for the remainder of my lease term ($574 x 7 months). In addition, they charged me $874 to "break my lease".

There is no way out of the contract. No one wants to live here, I tried to have someone take over my lease online.

At this point, if you are still reading, you are thinking 'this is getting rediculous! She must be making some of it up!'.

If only I were! I wish I was...

There's nothing more to say, I guess, except for, if you do ignore my warnings, and do move in, and do experience Longhorn Landing at it's "finest", please remember reading this and make sure you tell your story on here too. This place will never get better if people keep ignoring the warnings...

GOOD LUCK!

Still nothing has changed? Do they still have in the contract that you are forbidden from saying anything negative about the complex? I couldn't believe that clause. It should have been a big red flag. FYI - my child went to UT Austin legal services and they represented her against this apartment complex. It was free since she is a student. And she is very pleased, without noise from other students in an complex that doesn't have a pool or tanning bed. You have to compromise as far as amenities. But you don't have to put up with mold issues, smoke alarms, etc. Get some legal representation.

It's extremely funny that you mentioned the outlets not working because maint. painted over them. We had that same problem, AMONG MANY MANY OTHERS. It's a small issue, but other issues just keep piling up. I completely understand about painting over the mold. Not only did they paint over the mold, but they also painted LONG, COURSE BLACK HAIR into the walls. How hard would it have been to just remove it?! I mean, really. The new rates are so high, I pay less for a brand-new condo in West Campus.
