Worst living experience yet

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

I've lived here since August of 2007. I had some friends that lived in this complex and my lease at Campus Estates (now University Estates) was up. So, I heard rent was 415 a month, and all bills were paid. Great.

I had planned to move in with two friends of mine, and we had all gone in together to sign our leases (they lease bedrooms individually here) and we all figured we'd get the same apartment. Well, the leasing agent who I had signed my lease with had quit, and somehow, I ended up in a 4 bedroom apartment with 3 bedrooms already occupied, and their applications hadn't been approved for some unknown reason. So I'm already stuck where I didn't want to be. Great.

First day here, I move into a bedroom that wasn't properly cleaned. The walls were dirty, there were pot seeds under my desk in the carpet and in the dresser drawers, there were cracks in the walls, and various other asthetic problems. On top of that, I had to deal with a random roommate who left dishes on the floor outside his bedroom door. Complained to the office for months, and nothing was done, finally he moved out due to my constant nagging to clean his stuff.

In October '07, I got 2 pet kittens, and had planned to pay the pet deposit when my next paycheck came in the beginning of November. Well, they found I had my pets, and charged me a $200 fee for them. Being that I'm a student and these are student apartments, I had my parents help me out since I didn't have those funds at that time. Nothing was said about a pet deposit which had to be paid with the pet fees until just recently, in March of '08, and now my balance is beyond $900 for the backcharges they're adding to my account. Also, in January, our gas was cut off for 4 days due to the former slob roommate not paying his gas bill from before the time I moved in, when all utilities were paid separately. A month after that, the gas was off again, due to a "faulty part" in the hot water heater. Both times, maintenance was in the apartment numerous times and nothing was said to me about pet deposits, but twice a week, we'd get fliers on every apartment door reminding us to renew our lease. Now, we get fliers every Friday reminding us about their pool parties, but it still took them at the least, 5 months, to bring up the pet deposit.

I've seen drug deals, gang fights, people pulling guns, and walked around and seen drug paraphernalia on the ground here. The management is very confusing, and they have lost rent payments for not just me, but many other residents I know here, and a lot of times, members of the management will be out of the office for days at a time when you need to take care of a problem with them.

I've lived in 5 different apartment complexes, and this is the worst yet. I'd never reccommend this place to a friend or anyone for that matter. If you're a student looking to move to this area, move to University Estates.
