Great for a student on a budget

I have lived here for over a year and a half. Yes, I have encountered problems in the past, but the newer management has really made great changes to the complex. I had moved here from Waco Tx, and if you know anything about Waco the rates are high and so is the crime. I've felt very comfortable living here having moved from Waco. The maintenance is fast as long as you make sure they put in a work order for your apartment. I've been really happy with the changes they have made in the gym equipment which really helps a UT student on a budget with time constraints if you don't have the time to work out on campus. I also love being able to save money by not having to pay to park at school and just taking the bus, though I wish the bus ran on Saturdays as well.
This apartment complex isn't perfect, but are there any, really? I've read the posts on here before and well after moving in here and my advice is to read the contract before you sign it and keep up with the tenant laws for Texas. From personal experience, no apartment complex likes it if you want to move out early and they legally can charge you an arm and a leg for it. So quite whinning that you have to pay to break a legal contract (lease).
Feel free to reply to my post, as I will return to reply to what anyone may have to say to this post.

I lived at Longhorn Landing for a year and youre right, there are some good points about it like the bus coming by there, but there are so many more negative things that I think are reasonable to complain about.
1. I had mold growing in my closet because the water heater broke and saturated the wall (my closet backed up to the heater). I promptly made a work order the day that the mold was discovered. Three days went by and no one came to fix the problem. I called and made another order. Two weeks go by and no one fixes the problem. At this point I'm furious. There is a time limit to clean up mold after it is reported under Texas law and I believe it is 48 hours. After showing up and complaining loudly in the leasing office, my problem was solved. I had them print a copy of the work order, sign it, and give it to me.
2. One evening I went to the hot tub with a few neighbors. The next morning when I woke up and started brushing my hair, I realized the ends that had touched the water were bright blue! Not just chlorine tinted, but SMURF BLUE. Also, the lining of my swim suit as well as my neighbor's swim suit had turned blue. When I reported this to the office they claimed there was nothing wrong at all with the water and they check the levels all the time and told me I shouldnt have gone swimming with blonde hair. How does that make any sense? How does that explain out swim suits? They did not look into what was wrong with the water and offered no apology when I had to spend lots of money to have my hair treated.
3. It was about a month before my lease was up, around 10am. My roomate was out of town so I was getting dressed with my bedroom door open and I head a knock on the front door. As soon as I hear the knock, the person says "Property manager!" and unlocks my door litterally 2 seconds after knocking and two men walk in while I'm naked with my door open. I grabbed a blanket and said "can you give me a minute?" and they just stood in my living room while I scrambled to shut my bedroom door and get dressed. And what was so urgent that they needed to unlock my door? They just needed to do a move out check and see that the fridge, microwave, etc. were in good shape. I was furious. But as it was a month before I moved out I decided not to do anything about it. Why should I? They never listened to me before.
When you live at Longhorn Landing you are not treated like an adult. Because the mostly all people who live there are students, they do not get respected. I can promise you if they had unlocked the door so abruptly on a 30 year old women she probably would have taken them to court.

I don't like the propaganda Longhorn Landing is giving away, spending lavishly on promoting the apartment but fixing no to none of the problems in the apartment complex, one of the major -but not only- is security. Instead of giving brand new exotic cars, ipods, Plasma TVs, etc, etc. they should hire two security guards and security cameras to prevent day time apartment theft. Longhorn Landing is swimming in pools of money from naive student loans who probably don't know their rights and demands -being first time renting an apartment. I'm angry! I wouldn't live there again even if they paid ME to live there...

I also live here and yes there are the good and bad points. The leasing agent K*** who no longer works there somewhat screwed me over when I moved in by not telling me everything. The newer leasing agents and staff have done what they can to change my opinion on how the property is run which is good since I don't have to spend the money on moving costs and none of my friends in the area like the other student apartments in this vicnity.
My earlier compliants on the carpet in the 3 bedroom apartment that I live in have since been re (reviewed) and I was able to get new (fake) wooden floors in the living room and bathroom areas. It's fake but it is so much better than what I had. I sometimes talk to one of the guys that works in the clubhouse, and he told me today that a police officer and security gaurd are moving onto the property and that they are giving out a number to residents soon that they can call if they want someone to walk from the UT bus stop to their apartment with them at night, or something to that nature. I also saw on Ch. 7 that they have a VIP club or something that is getting residents together to voice their opinions on change.
All of this stuff is happening now, so it seems as though the office is starting to take head on what people are saying on this site and trying to change the view previous and current residents have here with the new management. I don't recognize anyone in the office from when I moved here, including the leasing agent K*** so I think that is awesome.
If I could go back in time would I have originally moved here from my parents house? NO.... If I had a choice of moving here now (if I didn't live here due to my lease) Yes
