Having recently moved from Longspur Crossing, I wanted to post an update and elaborate on my previous review (please refer to "Check out the neighborhood before you live here").
Anyhow, I must say that living at LC was certainly educational. I remembered some Spanish from my university days and practiced speaking it with hispanic moms when I took my baby to play at Quail Creek Park ( a few blocks away from the complex). However, my Spanish speaking neighbors were still generally uninterested in being on friendly terms, even when I greeted them in Spanish. Perhaps LC just brings out the worst in its residents...
The neighborhood itself is certainly not safe. The walk to Quail Creek Park (specifically Rutland Dr... I stayed well away from Rundberg) was littered with vagrants and prostitutes. However, the bums and hookers were actually more friendly than my neighbors at LC. They never demanded anything and they always smiled and said hello.
The management, in my experience, wasn't as awful as some reviewers have suggested. In fact, the office staff was very friendly and followed up on our requests promptly. Perhaps it is all in the way a resident approaches them (a cheerful and polite attitude is really effective).
However, a pleasant staff doesn't make up for the shortcomings of the apartment complex and surrounding neighborhood. Here are a few things I failed to mention in my previous review:
1. The "Fitness Center" was never open on time (or at all)
2. Our water bill rarely deviated from $50.00 every month, regardless of water usage
3. The complex was very noisy: car alarms, ice cream trucks (in the summer), school buses that honk at 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m Mon. through Fri., 3:00 a.m. trash collection at the adjacent shopping center several times a week, blaring tejano music, constant police and fire engine sirens; My husband and I lost so much sleep during our year long stay at LC
4. Police helicopters used their spotlights to search the complex and neighborhood frequently
5. The pool was really gross (mucous excretions and clumps of long black hair)
6. Dog feces freckled the "green space" throughout the complex; Feral cat feces (and broken glass) decorated the children's playscape area
The list could really go on, but I think what I have written is sufficient. A final note to those who, like myself, moved to Austin from another state: The Zilker neighborhood is really great if you want to experience the classically eclectic spirit of Austin. Or, if you enjoy shopping and a suburban lifestyle, try the Arboretum area. Stay away from the East Side (even the newly renovated areas are still unsafe). Oh, and Old Enfield and Tarrytown are nice if you are looking for a suburban feel in an urban setting. As for Hyde Park, it's over priced but perfect for college students. P0MtU6TIdDkM23RTonAS

This is an incredibly accurate review. Props. I was in the exact same situation, moving from a different state. Same story.

I have thinking about moving there. Now, I am having second thoughts. I don't like living near trashy neighbors and renters who don't take care of property since they don't rent. Bad taste in mouth when there is hidden costs!

I am afraid that my last review was erased when I posted this current review. For clarity, I want to mention that rent includes monthly tack ons not mentioned until lease-signing: $4 trash fee, $2 pest control fee, $35 washer and dryer fee.
