Please do yourself a favor, don't live here

I have lived at this complex for 10 months and am not renewing my lease for a variety of reasons. Reasons you should consider before even touring the apartments. First and foremost being the lack security for their residents. Only a week ago there were a series of break-ins at the complex due a non-functioning gate. You will come in to the office in the afternoon and they will tell you they leave the gates open during the day. Come by again at night and you'll see the gate wide open. It broke a month after I moved in and no one cares to fix it. They will put the pawn off this responsibility onto the residents to keep safe, but they don't even care enough to fix the entry gate for 9 months now. This had lead to numerous apartments and vehicles being broken into. Please ask APD for the number of thefts reported at this address if you don't believe me. Also, they have a complete lack of respect for their residents. Another apartment in my building keeps their 125lb dog on their 60 square ft balcony. Even after showing the management the lease contract which prohibits dogs this size and a COA regulation the bans keeping dogs on balconies the management refuses to act. I assume this is because the office workers will not regulate their friends, who seem to occupy a quarter of the apartments in the complex. Lastly, a complete lack of professionalism on the part of the staff. You will notice this during your tour, if you ever get that far. I have lived in apartments in Austin for 7 years now, and this is by far my worst experience renting. Please do yourself a favor and do not sign the lease here.

I can vouch for the gate problems. I've been there a year and a half and the gate hardly ever functions. Not that I put much stock in a gate; someone who wants to get into any gated apartment complex just has to wait around till a resident comes along, and just come in behind them. Also they don't go around at night to see if the outside lights are working; the one outside my door was burned out for months. The new management claims to be more conscientious, but whaddaya know, gate was broken again just days after that conversation.
