To begin, I have lived in Chelsea Regent for about 7 months and I AM NOT ON STAFF THERE. I chose to live in the complex because: it's close to everything because it's right next to I35, it's cheap, and it's not awful. My apartment has the concrete floors (which are well done in my place), granite countertops that are solid granite and NOT made of granite tiles, a ceramic tiled sunroom, and is large for a 1-br (about 760 sq. ft.). Visitors have commented that they can't believe that I get my apartment for my price ($620 which is more expensive than some of the other units in the complex). I have friends who live in West Campus or downtown who pay $1000 or more a month and live in tiny, gross, old places. I looked at dozens of other apartments, and they were all much more dated than mine and more expensive. Yes, the staff take forever to fix things. Yes, the parking sucks. Yes, the grounds get muddy and disgusting when it rains. Yes, the people in the office try to intimidate you into signing a longer, more expensive lease, and they will try to broker deals with you (don't fall for any of this). Yes, some of the residents are completely shiftless and shady; but if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. However, I've been very satisfied and would recommend this complex to most people. I've lived in bad apartments, but this is not one of them.
