Nobody gave me any hassles but know where you will be living...
Lived there from early 06 to early 08. Apartment itself wasn't bad...had dishwasher leak once, took two visits from maintenance before they replaced it but they did replace it. I had no insect problems and they sprayed regularly. I always paid on time and never had any issues with management. A lot of rollover in tenants.
It is not gated so anybody walking down Dessau or adjacent street can enter the complex easily. Had a person held up at gunpoint when they were checking the mail 1 week after re-upping my lease. Oddest thing I ever saw there was three cops in vests with guns drawn trying to kick down a 2nd floor door one building over from mine. The person they pulled out of the apartment was in terrible shape and looked like a heavy meth user. It was odd as that isn't a really common sight there. These two events, however, did make me happy to leave the apartment.
Just around the block, you've got a little mexico and a lot of migrant workers hang out and shop. Also, across I35, you have a known prostitution area and they'll make their way down to the little mexico often. It is not uncommon to see a prostitute and pimp when driving in the area just around the corner from Marlborough Square apartments. Going the other way down Dessau, the area is nice. Area would probably feel a lot safer if not for the crowd attracted to the migrant area.
Getting into the apartment complex from Dessau can be terrible as there is a stop light at the Dessau entrance/exit and sometimes cars waiting for a green light will block the entrance in as there is room for only 1-2 cars to wait. One other side entrance is on adjacent block. Parking was never a problem.
Yes, there will be people digging through dumpsters.
I think management rolls with the times. When I first moved in, it was very common to hear spanish speaking women yelling at each other in the parking lot deep into the night. After a few months, that element kind of moved on and it got a lot quieter. When the housing crash started to occure, all of a sudden, you've got people in very nice cars moving in. They were mostly quiet.
Never really heard my upstairs neighbors all that often. Don't know if they were really quiet or if these old apartment were built to keep it quiet.
The neighborhood of houses behind the complex is quiet. Every so often you'll hear a drag race down that block but mostly quiet.
Would I live there again' Nope. Did my two years there, would look elsewhere.
