Nicest complex in the Arboretum

I have lived here for a year now. I have toured and/or lived in every complex in the arboretum area. Without a doubt, this is the nicest complex in the Arboretum (and I move to a new complex every year). Every apartment, from 1st floor to 3rd floor, has 10 foot ceilings with crown molding. The standard paint is a khaki color. It is warm and inviting and much better than the standard white or eggshell of most complexes.

Every visitor I have had at my apartment has said that it feels more like a condo or townhouse than an apartment.

The bathroom is the size of a bedroom. It is very large!!! Plus, the W/D is located in here instead of in the kitchen. The bedroom has two large walk-in closets, which is very nice. I used one for my storage. It was much better than having a storage closet outside because it stayed cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

My electric bill never went above $100, even in the summer. (but I never went below 76 degrees in summer or above 80 degrees in winter). The water bill though was a little pricey in my opinion. It was always around $20 a month.

Other perks include a carwash station, the incredible pool (it really is the most beautiful pool in Austin), and a free two-story covered parking garage. The parking garage on the west side of the complex though, so if you happen to live on the east side of the complex, it wouldn't be convenient to park there.

I think the carpet should be upgraded though. I had dull gray carpet in mine. The inside looks very nice and elegant compared to other places, they should upgrade the carpet as well.

The gates are pretty secure. There were only a few times that I remember them being broken or open all night. I never heard of any crime there. And there were hardly any children in the complex. The pool was occupied mostly by adults. In fact, there isn't even a playscape on the property.

There are a couple of downsides. You can hear when people walk outside in the breeze way. But, I never heard anyone through the walls, surprisingly. There aren't any real "views" at this place. You will either look out at the parking lot or across from another building in a courtyard area (which are full of trees and in the summer, block your view to the other buildings). There is only one building that has a "view". That would be a 2-bedroom building overlooking Stonelake Blvd. This is one of the reasons I am moving. A panoramic view is very important to me. Plus, they didn't have a better location for me to move to at the time.

All in all, this is a beautiful place to live. It's not perfect, but it is better than most, with few kids and few college kids. It has been the best Arboretum complex I have lived in so far. If the new place I move to doesn't work out, I will definitely try to move back here.

As a newcomer to Austin, your review was very helpful. Do you have any thoughts regarding Arboretum Oaks?

I'd like to thank you for your review it was very thourough and really liked to hear the apartment has the khaki paint (I hate the cold feeling of white/eggshell paints). I'm moving to Austin soon and have been reading about 100 of these and yours was the only one that was of such substantial quality. Thank you for taking the time to be honest and objective.
