Bare bones

I currently live in the Martha Vineyard complex. I moved here because the price was right for the area -- but the old adage that you get what you pay for certainly stands true here. It's ok, but certainly not luxury. Here's the low-down:
The good:
1. The units are solid and fairly well sound-proofed.
2. There is rarely if ever any hell raising going on.
3. The complex is very kid and pet friendly so if you have one or both you're in
luck.
4. The grounds are well kept (except for the dog poo) and the landscaping is
outstanding.
5. Maintenance is fast -- you call, they're there within 24 hours.
The bad:
1. The quality of the maintenance inside of the units is very shabby. The person
who said the caulking looks like kindergarten art is telling the truth!
2. There is a business center but you have to go to management and request a key to
get in.
3. There once was a television in the fitness area but it has been removed or stolen
and only the stand remains.
4. The lighting outside is minimal. It is a safe area so it's not a huge problem for me, but a little more light would certainly be nice.
The ugly:
1. Management has no personality and treats you as if you were a number rather than a
tenant who lives here. (Isaac, the office person, is a really nice guy and will
go out of his way for you but his authority is limited by Penny.
2. There is no clubhouse or any socializing in the complex whatsoever, aside from
meeting someone at the pool. The picture on the website that resembles a
clubhouse is now the leasing office and you will not be made to feel welcome
there beyond conducting your business and moving on.
3. These units are advertised as luxury units but they are definitely not. The
kitchen countertops are laminate, the carpet is the cheap plastic/nylon stuff, the
appliances are old (though they have replaced some), the lighting and faucets are
bare bones, and the flooring in the baths and kitchen are the cheap vinyl kind.
In a luxury apartment the lighting would be recessed and modern, the faucets top
of the line, the countertops marble, the carpet berber, and the flooring ceramic,
and the maintenance top-notch. NOT SO HERE!
So, if you want solid basics and no frills at a decent price and you have kids and pets, this may be the place for you. But if you're looking for a social life inside the complex or a luxury apartment you should go elsewhere. Good luck!!
