I have lived in this apartment complex since 2004, and I'm still living here now, I have likes and dislikes about this place so I feel I can give a great review to someone who may be considering this place and doesn't want to read comments from a person who is just mad and coming in here trashing the place as a personal vendetta.
Maintenance is amazing, we have had things replace not halfway fixed up, and it didn't take weeks, and if it did because of things having to be ordered, then our maintenance man would communicate this up front. Our water heater started leaking, replace, our dishwasher leaked, replace, our stove wouldn't work, replace, our refrigerator icemaker wasn't working, replaced. Keep in mind this is almost four years of usage so things didn t stop working properly all at once. I don't want to paint the picture that things are constantly breaking either because they worked for years prior to. The point I'm making is this, I have had to fight tooth and nail at other places but this places is quick to tell you, if you need something let us know and they mean it. Another thing I would like to share is the personalized treatment that our maintenance guy gives in his service, I bet you could ask many residence and they will all say that Jeff is a stand up guy, who really cares about the people who live here. I remember my husband took my house key of my key chain but forgot to put it back, so he accidentally locked my out when he left for work while I was at the grocery store (which is like 2 minutes down the street) and I had tons of groceries that I had in my car, during the heat of the summer. Jeff happened to be driving by working on someone else s apartment, and saw that I was having problems getting in. He immediately drove back to the front office, made a key and drove back and saved my groceries and me. Talk about going above and beyond!
The construction of this place does leave you wanting to some extent, there are different insulation issues, and this also will explain one of my complaints, which is pest control. There isn't much noise, we recently had trees trimmed but they waited until mid afternoon, in the attempt to minimize the inconvenience of the residence. Noise is hardly ever a problem, when you do hear things like sirens, your shocked, people come out to investigate since it isn't a normal thing to hear. I haven't in almost four years had to call the office or police for any disturbances and most of the time the noises come from the residential area directly behind the duplex. Grounds are nice enough, nothing spectacular but at least it is maintained. Safety isn't an issue either, we are in a great location in North Austin, great schools, and great shops nearby. There s lighting and your walkway isn t obstructed. There is a firehouse nearby as well which, to me, gives me better piece of mind, not to mention helped with the premium with my rental insurance! Office staff has finally come together and at first I would be ranting about the office staff members we have had for the first couple of years of living here, but the women they have now are so much better, their friendly enough but way more efficient then the past people. Parking isn't always great because guest sometimes park where residence are suppose to park and not in the front of the unit, but this isn t a big deal if you live on the first level since you have two doors of entry, this is more problematic if you live on the upper level since parking out front at the street level would require you to have to walk around and then up the stairs. Neighbors are okay I know almost all of mine, but there are some that make you wonder but isn't that everywhere'
But the things that gets me the most, the things that makes me not like living here are three reasons, no storage, square footage, and ants!!!!!!
If you have stuff your gonna either have to using the space that is suppose to be used for the water heater or the air conditioner in order hid things away. The laundry room doesn't have enough space to store anything if you have a standard size washer and dryer in it, and the closets are a joke. The second room is not good if you have a teenager, maybe a small child in elementary school but trust they will grow out of that room and quick! And finally ants, in the summer you have non paying residences that come in swarms, and they bring buddies too, like spiders and an occasional roach no matter how clean you keep your place, and trust me I'm compulsive when it comes to cleaning. Pest control only comes out on Thursdays and you have to ask the front off ice to but your name the list for him to come in. This could be a gem of a place, for the right person, but you do have to contend with some things like the above mentioned. Hope this helps!!!!

Okay so now here it is I moved out of this place, and low and behold I get nickeled and dimed to death!!! First they never gave us our renewal paperwork... their response to this is, "well we printed it out here so if we printed it then that means we gave it to you". How am I gonna prove that they printed that document on such and such day. They admitted that they have to submit their renewal offers to headquarters, and wait for approval and this leaves a small window for the renter to respond which then makes it all the more difficult to give your 30 day notice. We got our renewal paperwork after the first of the month, gave our notice prior to the 15th letting them know we were moving out by the first and we did move out by the first, well they billed us til the 15th, 15 days of charges for an empty apartment. Well to this I say to this, you will never see that money. You hide behind the rental agreement yet the agreement is a document that governs you as well as me, and if you can't honor your part of the agreement I will not be honoring mine. That charge will drop of in 8-10 years from my credit, I am already in the perfect place for two years so when I renew my lease with my duplex your measley charge won't hurt me in the least bit, and by the time I move out of here, I will be in my home so, you just got billed to collect something you ain't never gonna get, oh and Austin Tenent Council here I come!!!! Melrose Managment Sucks don't move here!!!!
