This is a tough area. The nearby stretch of Wickersham Lane between Riverside and Oltorf is a magnet of crime. Two dead bodies have been discovered in the last few years and this year there was an attempted abduction of a women getting off one of the bus stops. Gunshots are frequent and this area keeps the cops busy. During 2003, it seem a daily or weekly event to see a car broken into especially in the visitors lot next to the leasing office.
The complex was very nice when we moved in, and it didn t even have to advertise thanks to nearby AMD. But in 2002, they began advertising and making deals aggressively. We got a great deal, and apparently, so did any other fool coming in off the street. Take our current neighbor, who is probably 18 going on 12. Once when I opened our door to tell him and his friends to keep it down while they partied ON THE STAIRWELL, I was lucky enough to find him peeing. Nice. I went back inside our apartment quickly, called 311 for probably the 5th time we've lived there. Then he was at our front door trying to get in and pulling on the door nob. Then we called 911. Another neighbor in the same building was with the arena football team, apparently, they got a good deal, too, to live there, and they made their presence known, inviting what seem to be everyone in the world over for their own parties. We'd often start our mornings with beer cans strewn in front of our 1st floor apartment, which was not great with a young toddler living there. Once, someone was so high out of her mind, she drove through the North entrance straight for our apartment, luckily, she slammed right into our neighbors car before she got to our place or any pedestrians. She didn't even know what happened.
Overall, if you are looking for quiet, and safe surroundings, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to live next to college students and feel like you live in a 24/7 party --- this is your place. Although, if you want to live near the real party action, why not live next to campus'
