This place should be razed

My advice is not to move in to the North Castle Apartments unless it is your ONLY option to living on the street. I've been on property through at least five managers and/or mangement company changes and at each step things decline. Initially, the property was well maintained and maintenance issues were addressed promptly. In my first year my car stereo was stolen and the manager called himself to make sure that I was okay and that I was able to get everything taken care of. Within the next year they started moving to tile on for the common living areas (kitchen, bath, living room, dining) for all new tenants, I requested the same and it was granted EXCEPT they came and pulled out my carpet but never put down tile. Of course they were going through the first management turnover at the time. After a little over six months of bare concrete, I went to Home Depot and laid my own flooring... Within the next year my car was stolen from the property (yes the whole car this time) and in the midst of yet another management change they could care less. So my bathtub stopped draining correctly and I requested maintenance, and then again, and then again, and then again. Finally I called a plumber for an assessment and an estimate I presented it to the manager (it said that the drain needed to be snaked) - the manager's response a maintenance man with a coat hanger. He took apart the overflow and drain and attempted to clear it that way - it didn't work (it still doesn't drain to this day) and he disappeared (without putting the bathtub back together...) It is also important to note that the plumber looked at three separate bathrooms with plumbing problems in the same building that day (one woman's toilet wouldn't flush!) The management didn't do anyhting about any of it. Last year, my home was burglarized while I was on vacation. A message left at the office letting them know elicited no response. Most recently (yesterday) they changed my locks and left my two-year old and me without any access to our home. They did not leave a key and the after hours phone number is not answered. I am completely current on all of my rent, I had no pending repair requests (other than the bathtub which is by now more than 18 months old), and have not abandoned the property (although I did give notive at the beginning of December - 60 days required that I would be vacating on January 31.) I'm getting a lawyer today and have reviewed the property code on this one. Additional problems that say stay away: abandoned apartments with doors left open, drug deals/dealers in the parking lot, fences where you don't need it and lack of fence where you do (there is an eight foot drop to a courtyard about six feet from my door and children live on my level), there have ben several occasions withing the last six months where trash dumpsters were overflowing and took several days to get emptied, the windows and doors to not seal correctly, there is rotting wood in places, and it has been a while since the last time there was any pest control. The office staff are not familiar with laws, do not care about the tenants rights, and are in general very rude. I expect better treatment considering the fact that I pay all my bills and have fixed the majority of my own problems including the ones they have caused... I could go on, but you get the picture... ANY PLACE is better than here - they should raze the whole community and build something else.

If it was so bad... why did you stay there for 5 YEARS and bring a child into such a terrible place?

I have sued them, and luckily I managed to receive at partial payment of about 6 thousand dollars. When it was time for another installment (thats the only way they could "afford" to pay me. In installments) my lawyer contacted me and said they filed for bankruptcy. All the debtors will not receive anything further (including myself) due to the funds (and lack there of) being frozen in State court. They have no revenue and extreme overhead due to the very problems you are describing. They have no money! That's the exact reason the trash isn't removed, maintenance "repairs" are performed with old parts from other units or aren't performed at all!!! They have no way of funding all of the repairs, general maintenance, and upkeep that's required. All of the bankruptcy court papers are sent to me as I am currently in dispute with them and I also receive court papers from all the other properties that fall into this. Let me tell you, this is much bigger than you would ever know. This management company has several properties all over Texas and Louisiana. And they are all in crippling financial ruin. If you do in fact decide to pursue this legally, do not count on anything more than the satisfaction of causing them some slight discomfort with having to appear at yet another court hearing. At this point I doubt they would even be phased. You, in all honesty, would be at the bottom of an extremely long list of company debtors as well as individuals. I was lucky to receive anything from them, but as mu lawyer said, don't hold your breath for anything else. After all, you can't get water from a stone. Best of luck to you, and I hope this helps!!

I have had no problems. The trash has been picked up every time the cannisters are full-several times a week. They are busy making many repairs. I wonder, has it come under new ownership also? Management is new, but I am don't know who owns the property.
