This is, without a doubt, the worst place I have ever lived.
When we first moved in, the complex was actually decent. The manager lived on-site, and the office staff treated residents well and seemed to be on top of things. The complex was reasonably neat and clean.
All of this changed a month later, when a new management company took over and fired the old office staff. Things went downhill rapidly from there. The complex began letting virtually anyone rent an apartment. We had to deal with noisy neighbors for seven months before the office would do anything. Trash was routinely left to accumulate on the grounds. People would be loitering at all hours of the day and night, drinking and littering in the parking lot. As many as seven or eight people would be allowed to live in a two-bedroom apartment. Our car was stolen from the parking lot, despite the "security gates" which never worked. Fights and police showing up occurred at least once a week. (It doesn't help that this complex is in one of the highest-crime areas in Austin.) A ceiling fan fell and hit one of us while we were sleeping. Our air conditioning never worked properly despite multiple visits from the "maintenance" staff. The office staff seemed unwilling or unable to do anything about the problems, and the owner promised to do things but never did. The "management company" blamed everything on the owner. The office staff changed almost daily, as did the residents in the various apartments.
Parking was adequate only if you were a resident. Visitor parking spaces were extremely limited in number, and the tow company servicing the complex was very aggressive about towing people who came to visit us.
In the last month we were there, yet another new set of office staff seemed to be making a genuine effort to improve things. But it was too little, too late. If you enjoy living in a dangerous place surrounded by people who don't speak English and will probably steal your car from the parking lot, move here.

Oh, in addition, the complex stiffed us for 80% of our deposit, claiming we left the apartment dirty and damaged. We left it in better shape than they gave it to us. This place is the ultimate in shady apartments.

I'm the person who initially posted this review. A few months ago, I actually had reason (unfortunately) to go back to Northchase....a friend of mine made the mistake of moving there. It's gotten even worse than it was in 2005, if that's possible. Half the buildings look like they're about to fall down, there's almost no lighting around the complex at night, and the shady people drinking in the parking lot and around the grounds are still present.
