I've been here for almost a year now and moved in because a friend recommended it to me. After the new paint smell dissipated, my apt REAKED of cigarette smoke. I had to complain NONSTOP about it until they let me move to a different apt on the complex and waived the moving fee. So glad old management is gone. Don't know about new management, but they seem pretty nice so far. For all apts, GET IT IN WRITING AND COPIED, and don't sign a lease till the renovation smell is gone, or you'll be surprised like me to fine a technically unclean apt (meaning lingering smells). Otherwise safe area, close to necessary stores. People do use basketball court so if you don't like noise, put in a request to live further away from it. good luck!

Most likely the cigarette smoke came from another unit in your building. I was in the same situation when I was living there. I lived in the first unit 2 weeks and cigarette smoke inundated my apt. I knew it was coming in from the air flow vents, that was very obvious. The management said they had never had a complaint about cigarette smoke before. As I would later find out - that was a flat out lie. I too, moved to a different unit at my expense only to have the same thing happen again. What I learned, and this is a fact - these apts were built in the late 70's and shared ventilation was a cost cutting process with some complexes, of course not all 70's complexes are like this, but a lot are. Oak Ridge is! So if someone is smoking in your building - you will smell it. Second hand smoke is a carcinogen and it can kill you. To be fair - Management can't do anything about it! It clearly is a structural problem. However, they don't have to lie about it. The apts. I am in now do not have shared ventilation, and you can bet it's the first thing I ask about when inquiring about living there. It's so nice not to have that hideous order in my home! Good Luck!
