Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
K, a year and some months later, I still enjoy it...and I have had ups and downs with the property. The trees still take my breath away and it's only a 5 minute drive from 6th street, the staff went above and beyond in keeping us from losing the place when we were in dire straights. Now that we're much better, we got a bigger place here. We didnt have a bug problem- bar the occasional grasshopper that wandered in. Our neighbors and us got along- everyone's been really easy going and altruistic. Maintenance was fine. Parking's a little different, but no worse than anywhere else. We had some hiccups over the months though: The little store that I still feel is super convenient gets a little rough at night though- we had to call the cops 3 times because of noise or domestic disputes in the Southport apartments across the street (Oak Run couldn't help that though, in all fairness), and yes, we had our car broken into twice, but I've seen more of a security and police presence in the months since. When I voiced my safety concerns to the staff, we were moved to the opposite end of the complex to get away from the sketchier area and to accommodate our growing family. And like I said- more patrols. I adore the new floor plan, how quiet and peaceful it is, and we have a nice sized backyard. It's completely tranquil and everything a small family could want. The staff has usually been cooperative and they have gone way out of their way to help us out. Other residents in our new area absolutely love it, although they've got their own tales of massive flooding and car break ins. On one hand, the wild natural hippy feel is inspired and I generally like older complexes because of the variety in floorplans. Yeah, security could be better-the total lack of pruning back on some of the landscaping kind of lends itself to a real mugging and rape risk. On the other, I used to lease apartments and I remember that there was never EVER a guarantee on the safety of an apartment complex. We just use comon sense- lock doors, dont leave cds out in cars, use a removable cd player in cars, dont walk alone at night like a witless victim in a horror movie, and guess what' It's as safe as anywhere else. So yeah, mixed reviews. But I still think it's worth it. We chose to stay. Guess the trees were actually too good to give up.
