BLACK MOLD' Educate yourself

After my relative's entire Oak Run villa flooded with outside muddy water due to rain and unresolved drainage issues (this has happened before apparently), she lost all her furniture.
The the manager told her she would not be let out of her lease, in spite of the minimum water damage treatment offered --carpet cleaning with carpet mold spray. Then she was informed that she could move back in. The unit smelled so toxic it made people's eyes water. The manager apparently never set foot inside it. There were numerous other units flooded as well.
After contacting corporate, the City of Austin Inspector, and a Black Mold Inspector - there was a quick change of mind from management. She was let out of her lease.
On a final note, the manager made a futile request that she go clean her (toxic) apartment before her deposit reimbursement would be issued, stating that "If you weren't a messy person it shouldn't be a problem."
A tenant who payed rent promptly and took good care of their rental unit should not be treated so unethically.

ok, everyone get ready. Everytime somebody writes a negative post, the manager comes back, pretends to be a tenant, and writes a glowing positive post within 1-2 days.
Let's see if this time she focuses on the trees, gregarious hippie neighbors, or friendly staff.

You're on the first floor? How many floors are there? I am reading reviews of several apartment complexes, planning on moving to Austin in Aug or Sept. Does the place flood due to drains being clogged? Maybe if yall call the city? How does it work exactly? You go to see a room before renting and that is the room you receive if you decide to move in? Or do they give you a ratty old apartment that looks NOTHING like the one they showed you?

Dear Anonymous who wrote this Review,
Please send me an email or call, if you don't mind. I would like to ask you a question or two about your relative's experience. Mine are very similar. IT would help me a lot.
thanks.

OK, i told you the manager would be writing back pretending to be a tenant. She is the "anonymous" person who wrote, "ever heard of renter's insurance." i know b/c she tells this to all the tenants whose apts flood (which many do). she won't take responsibility for the fact that the flood problems were pre-existing, and they continue to do piecemeal repairs. each time they make the tenant pay for damages, even though the original conditions were their responsibility.
so one tactic she uses is to say get renter's insurance. but of course even this "suggestion" is deceptive b/c she knows good and well that flood problems are NOT covered by renter's insurance. any renter's insurance in the whole country. you have to buy flood insurance from the federal government (through an insurance company). and rarely does an apartment dweller buy flood insurance.
