after living here one year, it's obvious to me that neither pecan grove nor united dominion (the parent company) has any desire to keep its residents happy.
I have seen 3 managers in one year, which signifies some administrative problems. some of the time, the manager was shuttling between two properties. Why didn't United Dominion hire two managers, instead of leaving the office closed and locked during normal business hours' I sent complaints above the manager's head (to robert montgomery) which went unnoticed. The biggest shock came at renewal time, when i found out that the price of my apartment has gone UP $20...while rents in austin have fallen dramatically!!! An anonymous call proved that the move-in cost (not the renewal cost) of my apt is $45 less than current. this doesn't seem to be very good retention policy, don't you think' no thanx, pecan grove. i'll find somewhere else.
My maintenance issues always were resolved right away, though I know people here who have had bad experiences with maintenance work-orders. Also, the location is convenient, especially for UT students. The city bus (1) runs on weekends/holidays when the UT shuttle doesn't, and there is an express (101) which goes directly to campus without making any other stops along the way. I did have some bug problems since i live on the first floor, including a lizard on my wall and snails in my shower several times! Security is ineffective since the gates have been open the past few months. It is surprisingly safe and quiet here; the walls are thick and i never worry about my car. I have noticed that the new manager is a bit unprofessional, but she has never been overtly rude to me personally. If you decide to move in here, be sure to hold out for lower rent, and negotiate. You should be able to get a free months' rent.
It's amazing how a perfectly good living situation can be tainted by bad management. In reading reviews on apartments, the common complaint is bad management and this is a classic example. Why do they think they can retain residents with increasing rents'
finally, a special thank you to the assistant melissa who has been the diamond in the rough. she has always been forthcoming and helpful.
