Overall I liked living at Pecan Grove.
I recently moved out because I was tired of living with no washer/dryer connections. It's an older building with it's share of maintenance problems, but a lot of things have been updated - new AC units, new facades on a lot of the buildings. It has it's ups and downs, but if you don't make a ton of money, it's a good choice.

Pros:
Best location I've lived in Austin - easy to get to North or South Austin and downtown/UT campus.
Nearby grocery store.
Their rent to sq foot ratio was fantastic.
Friendly and helpful office & maintenance staff.
Parking never a problem unless they were repaving the driveways.
Despite looking a little ghetto, I never had any problems with theft. Less than a month after I moved to a "nicer" apartment, my car was broken into, had its stereo stolen and was attempted to be stolen. I don't know if that's just coincidence or what.
No insect problems.
Utility bills were decent: for a 1/1 electricity ran around $80 and water $30.
Packages always held at office, never a problem picking them up after getting the note from my door.
Despite (or maybe because of) thin walls, neighbors were not quiet.
Security gates worked properly most of the time.

Cons:
The walls (more appropriately the ceilings/floors) were a little thin - sounded like my above neighbors were dropping bowling balls half the time. Also unwittingly made too much noice for my downstairs neighbor.
Early morning maintenance noise/yard work.
Appliances were getting a little old, especially the oven/range. Microwave was new.
Laundry room dryers didn't dry clothes half the time. Washers were fine.
Shortly before I moved there was a leak in my upstairs neighbor's bathroom pipes that caused the drywall in my bathroom ceiling to fall through - maintenance patched it and said it was fixed, and it was for awhile, but a smaller trickly of water eventually came back through the patching.
