Pinto Creek - Don't expect too much.

Pinto Creek is a not-so-great looking complex that has slowly evolved through the years into what it is today. I??m sure it was a pretty luxurious place when it was first built back in the 80??s but now it??s just another ??extremely affordable?? complex for college students and families. I lived there for one year (2005-2006) and though I loved the price, you have to figure that you get what you pay for.
Parking ?? Sufficient but you??re more than likely to walk on broken glass (from other cars that have been broken into) on a weekly basis. Covered parking is always nice during the hot Texas summers.
Noise level ?? Relatively quiet but get used to sirens blaring in the middle of the night from the activities on Riverside and Oltorf.
Standard Apartments ?? The apartments are old, though the bathrooms were redone a few years ago. The carpet is worn down and talk about old wooden balconies. Splinters are always a threat. The stove and oven were older appliances that aren??t the most efficient ones around.
Grounds ?? The complex waters A LOT to keep the grass green. *This is important because the monthly water bill is divided evenly among each building. You??re definitely paying for the bi-weekly grass watering that occurs outside your building. Upkeep is done once a month and after a big storm blew down a lot of branches, it took them a week or two to clear the area of branches.
Safety ?? The Eastside is NOT the greatest part of town. The City of Austin keeps a public crime report on their website (http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/police/currentcrimeinfo.htm). You can check out the type of crimes that are within the 500 and 1,000 feet of the complex.
Bus Stop: For UT Students, it might be attractive that there??s a bus stop right by the complex. Take note: it??s highly likely if you??re taking the bus that you will NOT be picked up on heavy-traffic days. This stop is the last stop on the route, so once the bus is filled, the bus keeps going!
Office Staff ?? The staff is ??polite.?? They won??t do anything that??s out of their way, so don??t expect any favors or ??superior service.??
- Packages sit for weeks in the office without them notifying you.
- The office is only open from the time they state. If they say they??re closing at 6:00 pm, don??t expect anyone there at 5:50 pm.
- I was in the office having an issue taken care of and the older woman on staff actually referred someone to another complex. Her words were along the lines, ??Ohhh??you know you??ve seen how this places looks. Why don??t you try??'??
All in all, if it??s the price that attracts you to the place, then go for it. Nothing beats paying $600 for a spacious 2 bedroom when you??re paying the same amount for an efficiency near campus. Be careful. The complex finds ways to penny pinch you in the end, ie your water bill including weekly waterings.
