I've lived in these apartments since Nov 2006. When I signed the lease I told them I had cats. No one mentioned me having to pay a pet deposit. I thought the manager was doing me a solid. A few months ago, I realized I'm allergic to cats and had to get rid of them. I found them homes and signed on for another year. Two to three weeks after getting rid of my cats I heard scratching in the walls. I immediately called the apartment management. It's hard to get in contact with someone because they ALWAYS have the answering machine on. I left a message advising them that I hear only a few rats in the walls above my bedroom and they may want to take a look at that before they have a litter of rats. No one contacted me or responded to my concerns. Two months later, I hear them near the baseboards in my room. Which indicates to me that I will soon have a nice big rat hole in my bedroom...right next to my bed. I called today, and spoke with their lovely answering machine. A few weeks ago, one of the neighborhood cats killed a rat. I found it under the stairs right next to my front door. It was big and grey. If I find one in my house I will surely break my lease and find another apartment. I was happy with this apartment even though the laundry room near my building never has a dryer that works. I was willing to deal with that because the price is reasonable. But since Nov 07 I haven't had a full nights sleep because the scratching and chewing in the walls keeps me up from 1am to 3:30-4 am EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Needless to say, I'm doing my part to keep rats out of my apartment (keeping my food in tight containers, taking out the trash every night, keeping my stuff organized and my apartment clean)...I hope these efforts are keeping them out of my apartment at night but it doesn't stop them from keeping me awake all night long. DON'T MOVE HERE. I know it's cheap but it would be better if you just paid a little extra and lived in a place that couldn't easily be condemned.
