I've been living at the Remington House apartments for almost 2 years, and I honestly thought it was a great place to live. BOY WAS I WRONG!! The rent is fairly cheap, and the apartment I live in is very nice and large. However, safety is a MAJOR concern. Personally, I didn't have any problems until the beginning of 2009 but I feel really naive now. My car was broken into 1 night which can happen really anywhere, but the cop that showed up to write the report said that he was at this complex for break-ins almost EVERY DAY! One morning, I ran into my neighbors who had had their motorcycle stolen and it was well equipped with safety features. Another neighbor had their apartment broken into within a week of moving. Another had their car broken into and had EVERYTHING in the car stolen. Now, everyone has become paranoid. I'm constantly looking out the window, and can hardly sleep at night thinking that someone will break into my apartment or car again. It's RIDICULOUS to live that way!!
My biggest problem is also with the management. They know that there is a lot of break-ins at this apartment complex yet they failed to mention it to me. I'm a very young single female, so I would think they might have been a little concerned about my safety!! They refuse to do absolutely anything about any break-ins and they refuse to acknowledge that their is a problem at the complex! Their is a "security officer" that drives around, but the management said that he is not their for OUR security, but just to watch for damages to the complex itself. Which is funny because there is a large privacy fence that sections off the complex from the big empty drug lot next door, and there has constantly been holes kicked in the fence and I've personally witnessed "very sketchy" people going through the holes. It took them over a month to fix a large hole. And every time there is a hole in the fence.. the burglary skyrockets! I even thought that parking in a well-lighted area next to a bunch of other cars would help, but that hasn't stopped the bastards yet!
The maintenance has also been progressively getting worse. They actually broke my good knives fixing a problem in my bathroom and the management refused to acknowledge the problem. They are also getting VERY slow!
So to sum everything up, the apartment complex looks great & everyone seems nice and friendly, but don't let that fool you! If you want to live in a place where you are constantly wondering if your car or apartment is going to get broken into, then this is the place for you. I would definitely invest in a car alarm, and try not to have nice stuff in your apartment. I would also not suggest this place to young single women unless your well-experienced in handling a gun! Even the apartment staff stated "If the security officer saw someone getting raped or a burglary happening, they are not obligated to do anything at all about it."
So please rent at your own risk!

I agree 100% percent! Manager is a rude -----! She will never take responsibility for anything that goes on here. As far as that stupid security guard who drives around at around 8ish at night is as useless as tits on a bull!!! If he witnesses any crime happening and doesn't report it, he is breaking the law himself. What the *uck is the purpose in having him drive around if he doesn't do anything anyway. I've never dealt with an apartment manager that is so cold & rude. Her attitude is, "Well, if you don't like it here, leave!" I wish the owners of Churchill Forge knew what an unprofessional swine they have managaging this place. I will be getting in touch with them here, this week too!

I have also been living there for a few years and my car has been broken into. More importantly, I came across some men at the mailboxes a few weeks ago that had accessed an entire section of about 25 boxes with a key. I notified the police, the post master, and the management. To my knowledge, none of the owners of the mailboxes have been alerted. Clearly these people were after tax checks, cards, and personal info to use for identity theft. According to my mail carrier at work, the key can be used to access boxes at any complex with similar wall boxes like ours. The price for the huge apartment is cheap, but I can no longer continue to deal with the escalating crime and deteriating surroundings. One of the window panes in my apartment is falling out of the window due to erosion. The window is so old that the seals have become brittle and are falling off the panes. I don't think these apartments have been renovated or updated in at least 15 years, and even then then upgrades were very superficial. The place just seems to be falling apart. And as much as I like my most of my neighbors, I'll be leaving in a few months. Hopefully I can talk some of them into moving to another complex with me ;-P

OMG! I can't believe that they were going through our mailboxes. Of course no one told me! But that doesn't surprise me. My apartment is really close to one of the dumpsters and almost every night I hear people rummaging through the dumpsters. So PLEASE take precautions to keep your identity safe! Since writing my first review, I have had EVEN more problems with the management. My light is ALWAYS out outside of my apartment which makes it extremely scary. Plus I've been having plumbing problems and my screen is falling off my porch and they have YET to fix it! I put in my month notice last week and bluntly stated why I was leaving, and they have absolutely nothing to say! I CAN'T WAIT TO LEAVE!!!!!

Are you serious?! I didn't know all this when I moved in... Damn... Well, there's less to concern a 6'3" 250 lb man over lights that don't work and bums crawling through fences (I find staff seem more cooperative when intimidated) but I am worried about my car. It's still up in Iowa, and I get around on a bicycle, (which makes that gate in back indispensable to one like myself) but my dad will be bringing the car down when he visits me in about a week, so I think I'll keep all my valuables out of it. Dammit! This looks like such a nice place, and the apartment is so HUGE for the low rent! Microwave and medicine cabinet, which I didn't have in my last place! I'm sorry, but my spirits are still up from all this!
