worst. apartments. ever.

i rented a unit (two actually -- read on for the story) in this complex shortly after it was built and soon discovered that they should have finished building before letting tenants move in. my first unit was a one-bedroom on the first floor. clean, roomy enough for one person, nice amenities, close to work (Apple when the campus was on Promontory Point). very soon after i moved in i came across a few problems. my dryer unit exhaust was not connected to the wall and filled the apartment with hot, humid air. not big. hot water line was crossed with a different apartment. not that big. but then i noticed my bathtub backing up -- with sewage. not just any sewage, but the kind that flushes. i had what looked like (and smelled like) a big unflushed toilet in my tub and it got deeper each minute. i called three times before anyone even responded and by the time any action was taken, the tub overflowed like a giant backed up toilet and spewed onto the bathroom floor. i evacuated me and my cat to my sister's place for a couple of days while they fixed the issue. too late for me, tho, and i requested a move out to a different unit. a third floor unit (hey, gravity dictates that the ---- falls down, right').
here's what i requested in more detail: let me move into a different unit and reimburse me for all moving expenses. 'all moving expenses' being movers for my big stuff, and re-doing my utilities which aren't free (i don't even think i asked for reimbursement for time off work). denied. they gave me, i think, $200 off rent and that didn't even cover the movers. why did it cost so much from one unit to another' because some of the units are located at the end of long walkways and movers sometimes charge for having to go that far from the truck. understandable. why did i get movers instead of a posse of friends' i was leaving for a two-week road trip in a day and i just wrecked on my bike and mashed myslef up somewhat. oh, and then the utilities. i asked, via BBB and the Texas Attorney General's office, for full reuimbursement and nothing else. no monetary gain for me; just what it really cost me to move. i provided receipts, copies of all, etc. denied. the reply from the management was short and short. they, and i quote, 'bent over backwards' to help me move.
anyhow. i didn't have many issues after my move. in fact, i didn't unpack about half of my boxes b/c i knew i was moving again. just be wary of these and any apartments in Austin. the housing is tight and they will take you for a ride and laugh all the way to the bank because they can. happy hunting.
