A few words of caution

My family and I have been residents here for over a year, and we have experienced many of the typical complaints that one has living in an apartment complex(loud neighbors, lack of parking, etc.). However, I am compelled to inform potential residents about some of the more disturbing aspects of life at The Retreat.
Safety and security of residents does not appear to be a major concern of the staff here. Since I have lived here, I have witnessed the vandalism rates rise. However, the apartment staff has never notified tenants of the incidences so we can better protect ourselves. This rise in crime might possibly be attributed to the fact that the security gates are rarely in working order. I am also not sure if the staff runs background checks on all of the tenants. I question this, because my husband was savagely assaulted by one of our neighbors. We received one phone call from management regarding that incident, and were told that they would take care of the problem. However nothing has been done to rectify the situation. That man still lives in our building, and we are stuck with thousands of dollars in medical bills.
There is also gang-related graffiti spray painted around the complex. You would think that it would be immediately removed, but no, it has been here for months.
Then there is the dog issue. When we adopted our dog, we checked with the apartment staff regarding breed restrictions. We were told no pit bulls or any other aggressive breeds. By my count there are at least 20 pit bulls on the property. That doesn't bother me. What does is the fact that most of their owners do not keep them on a leash when walking them.
While I am aware that all apartment complexes have their issues, I would caution anyone who is considering leasing here. You will pay a high price for an apartment that is akin to living in the projects.

I hope you filed charges on the neighbor that assulted your husband. That's horrible!

That's good to know. I would hate to know that my neighbor may retaliate against any kind of complaints. That and the pitbulls not leashed is a BIG deal. We're moving down from the Dallas area, and there are smaller cities surrounding DFW that have a no tolerance policy on pitbulls or other dogs who attack and injure, sometimes kill, small children or anyone. A lot of them are quarantined for 15 days or so, but some places will euthanize them depending on the situation. That definitely does not sound like a good living situation. I'd start looking around if you don't want to pay extra for the potential danger surrounding you. That is not the luxury lifestyle they project.
