High Electric Bills

An apartment is an apartment. They have their downsides and I won't bother going into the regular stuff because you will have noisy neighbors and parking problems everywhere. Those things don't bother me.
We moved into our apartment in the middle of July last year. When we got our first electric bill it was from mid July to the end of the month. I kid you not, it was $239. And we are not the kind of people who keep the thermostat at 65 all day.
So, I checked our last bill from the 1800 sq ft house we had just sold and compared the usage to the new apartment. The usage at IMT Wells Branck was more than double that of our house.
I thought something must be wrong. So, we installed a programable thermostat and set it to 80 when we were there, 99 when we were gone. August's bill: $235. We paid $235 for a 1100 sq ft apartment to be 80 degrees AT BEST.
We spent all of last summer and all of this summer hot as hell inside our apartment trying to keep the bill under $200.
The master bedroom would be the coolest room since the a/c unit was right next to it and it would still be hot and the rest of the apartment would be painfully hot but the air conditioner would run all day long. The only thing that could have caused this is poor insulation, or a crappy a/c unit.
We left for no other reason than we just plain and simple couldn't afford the electric payments. For the month of July this year our bill was $225. They can paint the buildings and remodel the clubhouse to the nines, but that will not change the fact that these apartments were poorly constructed.

The unit I rented had an air leak in the 2nd bedroom. It was so bad that rain would literally pour in. When we had the ice storm, the inside of the window had a sheet of ice "ON THE INSIDE" of the window. We made numerous call for maintenance and it was never fixed in the 1/12 years I was there. Ours wasn't the only apt that had the problem
