Beware of extreme rent increases.

I lived at MylesMark Riata for 2 years and had no complaints about the complex, the staff or the amenities. It was the excessive rent increases that made me move elsewhere. The final straw was a $50 rent increase to resign my lease. Whats worse, is that I later found out that my old apartment was listed at a rent LOWER than the amount I payed while living there. Many of my neighbors experienced the same thing, seems like the new management (Riata was sold Spring 2006)wanted new tenants. For the money, Riata is just too far from Austin proper. Its almost worth paying more in rent, and less in gas and wear/tear on your vehicle driving around Austin. - Just some things to think about before moving here.

Rent increases are the way of life. I'm friends with the manager of my current apartment (no longer Riata) and I do know one of the ways complexes try to get undesirable, but non-evictable, tenants to leave is with large rent increases. That being said, a $50 increase in the prices Riata charges is not an "extreme" increase. According to my current manager, about an 5% increase every year is to be expected if they have the demand.

5%? I've had 2 leases while at Riata. After the 1st lease (in Dominion), they wanted to raise my rent over $150 (nearly 10%), and now in the apartment I'm in they wanna raise it $80 (over 8%). I too think the rent increases are steep here.

I justed moved into the Buena Vista complex at Riata. This is my second week. I called about a hornet's nest on my balcony and asked to have it removed. That was last week. I come home today and find that I'm missing about $100 from an envelope of money (containing $500) I had on the kitchen counter. I was planning to use that to open a bank account. Granted I shouldn't of had the money on the kitchen counter, but I didn't expect to be robbed by someone who worked for Riata. I have no proof that it was stolen by the maintenance man, but I have no other explanation. I'm not going to renew my lease.
