Too pricey and noisy

Although I loved my apartments at Riata (first a 1-1 and then a 2-2), when the new owners took over it quickly became clear that the focus at Riata was on the younger set. Most social events revolved around drinking and the pool areas really were noisy. I overlooked one of the smaller pools (and paid a premium for the "privilege"), but loud music, people screaming into cell phones and the noise of 6 a/c units beneath my bedroom window made it impossible for me to keep my windows open or spend time on the balcony. When I moved in (Dec. 2005) management was in flux and I was fortunate to be able to deal with the assistant manager, who was a doll. Unfortunately, when she wasn't there I had to deal with the managers, who were real dragon ladies. It seemed to me that the maintenance and customer care deteriorated with the new management, and the rent went up astronomically so I moved out in Dec. 2007. While I, like many others, expected to make use of the wonderful facilities and activities, I found that I wasn't often doing so and didn't want to pay for the changes the new management apparently were funding through huge rent increases. Riata really is a beautiful place to live and if you're lucky enough to live in a quiet area (which I was in my first, smaller apartment) it can be lots of fun, but realize that you do pay for all those amenities - whether you use them or not. And don't expect any sympathy if you have a problem that renders your apartment uninhabitable. (I had an animal die inside the walls and I had to move out for a couple of weeks but got no concessions for the inconvenience - or for having the windows open (to air the place out) and heat on during that time - other than not paying rent for that period.)
